I'm sitting here watching the news. Boy can we spend money fast. I just found out that a way less expensive way of spotting oil slicks and distressed animals was tied up in RED TAPE. The Navy Blimp is fantastic, yet paperwork for funding was caught up in government red tape. What do you think of the time required to authorize ways of fighting the catastrophe?

Whenever theres red tape involved, it means they dont want it to happen. We had the G8 G20 here and you wouldnt believe how fast the red tape was cut off. In a matter of minutes, the cops had the right to arrest anyone and search you and your bags.
So think about who this red tape is being beneficial to!!!!

I appreciate you taking the time to write your thoughts. You are on target. Red tape can be cut, if the government so deigns. I do fault our government and BP for all the red tape responding and processing claims. For example, the best tool so far, the Navy blimp had 3mo of red tape. Think of the good it could have provided in the beginning. Oh well...

I think that things like this should not be subject to any government red tape or any other such paper work, we as tax payers obviously pay government taxes to sort out things like this, it is not as if the president is taking the money out of his pocket for it. The more time spent signing documents precious life goes lost or exstinct in the process. They need to look at the bigger picture in the end, which is Conservation.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Yes, we pay taxes, however the US is deeply in debt, due to 2 wars and numerous natural disasters.

I think that in cases like this the red tap should be cut. No one should have to suffer through waiting for the politicians to figure out how they can fund the use of the blimp.

Of course this particular issue is a moot point, but it jumped out at me on CNN. I wonder if there is something we could do as citizens to make things different for future catastrophes. Thinking back, look at our response to hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. I'm asking these questions to get us thinking in a different direction. The only way I can think of us expressing our opinion is to change the politicians. Maybe we could put businesspeople in Congress vs 90+ year old career politicians whose salaries are guaranteed. Course now I have another idea for a discussion.
