Stinky Kitties

This new kitten we have in our home has some flatulence problems. Now, that's bad enough but she insists on perching on my chest while letting loose with silent killers! She has just started on solid food so I'm cutting her some slack but as odor sensitive as I am, I'm dying here! Any suggestions?

Roxie had a problem with those "green fogs" and we ended up taking her to the vet to get it fixed. Sassy has a similar problem, but she's 19 yrs old with a pretty bad hernia, we're cutting her some slack

Bless, 19 !! That is a really good age, and with a hernia. She must have been very well looked after to reach such a good age

Ashley had that problem when we first go her too. When I took her to my vet, the vet said it is not normal for cats to have gas (unlike dogs). I was told to change her diet so we switch her catfood for another brand and the gas stopped. I would just suggest changing your kitties diet (and it doesn't have to be a special food) and the gas should stop. We changed from the pet store formula to Iams and she also seems to be alright on Purina Naturals and Meow Mix.

I buy cat food in bulk. The local store has bulk cat food which is from the damaged packages that they get so it is sometimes Purina, Meow Mix or any other brand. There's always some damage in shipping and rather than throw out the less than pretty packages, they dump them into some large garbage cans and throw in a scoop for us to fill our bags with. It's the best buy around and the cats get some of the better quality foods for less than the generic price. I think Patches' problem is that her tummy was just empty when we got her and it needs to adjust to being fed regularly. I noticed that her little poots were less last night than the night before. She loves to perch on my chest where I get the full benefit of her little "wind". It's like when you go to hospital and they have you fast before surgery...then after surgery they are looking for gas before stools. Well, Patches was going hungry before we took her in and now she's passing gas in response to being fed again, and nutritious cat food rather than garbage. Her little tummy is so much happier now!

try a bag of "grain free" food, it worked for mine. it comes in sardine, anchovy, and salmon in the back of petco and petsmart.

Alas, I fear that I am unable to change the little ones' diet. I don't have the money to spend on the expensive food. I'm sure as her system gets used to eating regularly the problem will clear up.

Poor you and poor kitty!!! This is usually caused by too much protein in the cats diet, and it should help if you limit the milk she drinks. Perhaps a peg on your nose might help

LOL...Oldchem, you are a riot. I think the problem is that her tummy is just getting used to the new food. She was starving when we got her and as time goes on and she has a full tummy regularly, I'm sure it will clear up.

Some say flatulence is caused by eating too quickly. try feeding her in a quiet place to assure her that no one will take her food away. this might encourage her to eat slowly.

I'm sure she'll get better as she is fed regularly. Like I said before, she was starving when we got her and it is normal for some gas to come as the system gets used to eating regularly.
