There is this game that I play called Burger tycoon where you have to manage all the aspects of running a burger business. From farming, to handling the restaurants and keeping the community pleased. As the game progresses there will be instances where the production of cows and cowfood are not enough, therefore you would need to destroy a part of the woods to cultivate the land for farming.
Come to think of it, this is also what's happening in real life. People cut down trees to build bigger roads for easy commerce. Forest lands are converted into factories to supply demand. Oftentimes, a country's success is measured by its infrastracture.
Does this mean that it is imperative for nature to be destroyed so that a country can progress??? Does nature have to suffer because of modernization?

I'd like to believe that there has to be a balance. I heard an environmentalist and a businessman talk over the radio that for every car you own, you must plant 5 or 10 trees? Not sure but more or less that is the idea.
Nature has endured this far despite the abuses we have done so I still see a chance to revive it. May not be the same as it was but at least, a little repair would do.

If everyone in this world have the urge then it could be easy for a country to progress without harming the nature!! If everyone thinks no smoke or less harmful smoke, lets make our country more greener!! Why cutting woods so much ? What is the so much need of woods ? We can make some alternative for creating fire or something else!!

The least developed countries are those that less I damage have done him to the planet, but it is enough to see the movie that treats on the global warming, and there you realize that for example Argentine does not exist, I believe that China was, It uses, Europe and for of counting. Because of it if the countries mas developed do not worry for taking care of the planet, we are finished. They want to continue progressing, to be kept in the top without importing for them what can happen in a not very distant future, and take advantage of the least powerful countries to get hold of his natural resources to satisfy his internal consumption.

It is a natural process for the development but in exchange to that even cutting trees they should replace it somehow we need trees to trap the flooding and to prevent hit coming from the sun we still need nature to produce food for us without it where we going to get supply. What is the progress of country if the color is white and brown can you imagine that you were standing in a place where is theirs no green in the surrounding or a greener earth. I wouldn't love that if they cut something they should replace it at once.

I think it is possible through education and government addressing social issues like over population, self sustainability. The world is so over crowded and in some parts of the world you still find people that believe that the more children they have the better, as the kids will look after them. Humans are competing for land with animals destroying all natural resources causing extinction. If these things can be slowed down we can try and reverse those effects.

Burger Tycoon sounds interesting
I think in order to be truly regarded as progressive, a country must be able to balance modernization and nature. While nature unavoidably must suffer a little at first, the country must be able to look for ways for nature to recover and to be taken cared of. Countries with total disregard to their environment have not progressed. In fact, I think they are going to lose sooner or later.
Have a nice day!

Hello ddaguno--
I'm afraid that there is no way to achieve development in modern civilization without some harm to nature. I do believe, though, that there are ways to limit and even undo some of the damage. At best, humankind can establish a sort of balance through the use of sustainable forestry practices, for example, and the reclamation of disused mining and industrial sites.
In the end, unless we strike such a balance, nature is going to get back at us and wipe us out as a species!

i think it is inevitable to harm nature while making progress. what we can do is try the best way in which nature will be harmed the least.

I think under developed countries with a high population density cannot progress without harming nature. Since land is needed for new houses, industries, infrastucture and so on, it is difficult to eliminate any damage to nature. On the other hand, sparsely populated countries might find some barren land for development, without destructing forests, wetlands etc.
I think the problem is more acute in under developed countries because the governments are trying fast paced industrialization to provide enough jobs and improve the economy. People's sufferings come first and then nature, so the latter is often neglected. Whereas, developed countries already have the infrastructure and there is a general awareness among the people to preserve nature.
