Working for love or money

I have recently been employed in the Aged Care industry as an assistant nurse (no, I dont look good in a skirt) and I am over the moon. Although I am not making millions $ I am dealing with a wide range of people who each have their own quirks and foibles, personalities, and a story to tell. And that includes the staff as well! For about over thirty years I worked to gain a salary (labourer, Insurance agent, administrator, workplace trainer to name a few jobs I've had) and while I seemed to enjoy the work I often felt I was missing something. A few years ago I resigned from work to be my daughters chauffer (my wife cant drive so she decided to be the breadwinner) and in the process I discovered the joys of volunteer work - Meals on Wheels, being involved in the schools Parent and citizens group, being coach for the local footballl team, etc). This gave me a great deal of satisfaction. So when the time came for me to get back in the workforce (my daughter is in highschool now and keeps telling me she can look after herself, and money is getting tight) I searched for a job which would pay me for doing what I enjoy. An aged Care course was advertised and the cost was in my budget (it was free), so I enrolled and thoroughly enjoyed myself in both the studies and the practical training in a nursing home. I have now been employed in a nursing home close to home , working nightshift which allows me to continue to be there for my daughter when she needs me (my wife also - that goes without saying - but I've said it anyway), and getting paid for it. As I originally said the pay isnt going to make me a millionaire but I am certainly going to enjoy working no matter what comes along. So my question is - are you working for love or money or both? And what are you doing?

Sometimes we are not appreciated for the work that we do, but if we keep doing it for the right reasons good things will come. Have a great day!
