For years the Reds have been an average or below average team. Those days are gone! Under Bob Castellini's ownership, the Reds have been transformed. He brought in Dusty Baker as manager and Walt Jockety as General Manager. From top to bottom, there is a winning attitude on the team. And it is just that - a team. It is not built around a few high profile players. Everyone on the team contributes to the success they are enjoying. They play outstanding defense. Their infield is among the elite with Rolen, Cabrerra, Phillips (a sure gold glove winner this year) and Votto. And their outfield is above average with Bruce in right (incredible arm), Stubbs in center (he can fly), and Gomes in left (adequate). Their starting pitching is excellent and getting better each day. Edison Volquez is back from Tommy John surgery and is better than ever. Homer Bailey is ready to return to the starting rotation. Arroyo and Cueto are solid. Mike Leake has been awesome. And now they have Travis Wood who looks like he will be a number 1 or 2 pitcher; he's that good. And how about relief pitching? Arthur Rhodes is practically unhittable and Coco Cordero is a great closer. And it appears free agent Jason Isrighhausen may soon be a Red. Dusty Baker and Walt Jockety were so impressed when they watched the veteran closer who is coming back from Tommy John surgery pitch this week that they have offered him a contract. Imagine a healthy Isrighhausen added to the bullpen! And make no mistake about it. These guys can hit! The team batting average is among the best in baseball (.271) and they lead the National League in homeruns with 115. I say the Reds are the real deal! What say you?

Huge Reds fan. It is nice that we actually have meaningful baseball this late into the season. We are not used to that.
Stubbs is a freakin gazelle. That dude is so fast.
Gomes is a beast and an RBI machine.
Rolen is the perfect veteran for this mix.
Phillips might be the best second baseman in the game.
Bruce is good but improving
Vottomatic is an MVP
The staff of Leake, Wood, Arroyo, Cueto and Volquez would be sweet in the postseason. If they make the playoffs, I think pitching wins them a World Series this year.
How great would it be to hear Marty say, "And this one belongs to the Reds" at the end of the World Series?
GO REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be amazing to hear Marty say, And this one belongs to the Reds" when the Reds win the World Series! This could definitely be the year that the Reds pull another World Series upset just like they did against the heavily favored Oakland As in 1990...and perfect timing - exactly two decades after that historic wire-to-wire season! Go Reds!

Leake is now in the bullpen and not pitching to well there either. Votto's a beast and a Toronto native. If the Twins' Morneau could have stayed healthy, him and Votto might have become the AL/NL MVPs respectively. That would have marked the first time two Canadians won MVPs in their leagues. Yes, I'm Canadian also.

It has been great to see the Reds make the playoffs this season. I believe this to be the start of great run with the pitching and everyday players they have. The farm system has served them well this season and hopefully for years to come. It has been disappointing the last few seasons being a Reds fan, but now they are starting to play like they did when I was a kid. I remember being 17 years old and getting a Barry Larkin foul ball the day they clinched the West in 1990. A rainy afternoon but a great celebration. Maybe this season can end with another celebration as well. GO REDS!!!
