Did you keep any of your toys & pass them to your children?

I kept my toy box which was full of different toys, jigsaw puzzles, etc. My parents also kept my tricycle. These were all handed to my daughter when she was born. This also means that my daughter has WAY too many toys for her own good...the only good thing about my daughter having my toys is that when something breaks, I just tell her to throw it in the bin & she does...this saves alot of hassels of keeping broken toys.
What about you? Did you pass any of your toys to your children?

Hi moonchild, my mother stitched/made some of the toys, she used to do doll making and painting on the cardboard etc., those are still with us, she kept with a cover to avoid dust and also to protect or not to get spoiled. I will show them to my son now. My mother is no more but what she made toys for us are still existing, those we kept like her remembrance.

My mom too made me a doll called Raggedy Ann & I still have her...like you, I too lost my mom...I don't think I will give my daughter this doll because of the sentimental value.

My parents kept quite a few of my old toys. I passed on to my kids my Lego collection which is quite big as well as my Meccano set for my son. Other things apart from the board games that were saved were an old skateboard from the 1970's, my old cricket set, lots of my old Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars and a whole heap of marbles.
My kids only got most of these things a couple of years ago when we were in Melbourne visiting the family and my parents came out with all this stuff. We ended up coming home with a car that was absolutely full!

I can only just imagine how full your car was! I still have my marble set too but my daughter won't get my marbles until she's old enough to play with them properly.

Luckily on that trip we left our daughter behind to stay with the family for a couple of weeks. This is the only way reason that we were able to bring the stuff back!

Sorry this is kind of out of topic. Hope you'd welcome my sharing this :-) From my childhood, what I managed to save are my story books. My parents bought me like an encyclopedia set of story books ranging from nursery rhymes to fairy tales to arabian nights to fables and folklore, etc. I admit I haven't read all of them yet, but my children now enjoys the same stories from these books. My son recently had to share a short story to his English class, so he used these books as reference. I'm so happy that I have passed on these books and knowledge as well to my kids.

I have a stuff animal that is pretty old but i perfer keeping it to myself (also due to the fact I don't have any kids :P). To me, if your at an old age and you have a toy from your child hood, I think it's best to keep it to yourself. You don't have forever to live and I think you should have mementos of the times when of your past. It's great to have to have mementos of the "good times" lol. I'm not saying it's wrong to give your child your child hood toys but you might want to keep atleast one to yourself. You would also be suprised of the value your toy may have due to the history of it. Some old toys can be quite valuable. Especially with the economic times we're going through. It's good to know you can make a few bucks with some useless old toys :)

I hve kept a couple of toys for myself as they have sentimental value but the rest have been passed onto my daughter...I do have a collection of smurf figurines that I was thinking about putting up for auction.

i wish i could do so but all my toys have been passed to all of my 6 younger siblings so the toys suffered wear and tear and therefore not presentable to my future babies...but i do have a lot of baby clothes kept and i can't wait to see them worn by my babies someday... those are the things that has sentimental value to me..=)

They are always good to have - my daughter can fit into a couple of my favourite dresses that I wore when I was her age.

I lost all my toys in the last move we did from Ohio to Calif after high school. So I have nothing to pass to my kids, but I did make sure I kept some of their toys to give to their children. They really like that! They think it is great to hear about their parents when they were young and to have something that was Daddy's when he was same age.. is really fun for the kids.

At least you were able to see your son get enjoyment out of them when he was a boy...that's the main thing...your match box cars may even be worth a bit now - even with the well loved marks I can only imagine they have now lol.

Well I dont have any kids, but yes I did keep some of my childhood toys I kept my barbie and my action figures, and a few other things. and since I have no children yet, I'll probably pass some of my old toy items to my little niece when shes old enough to play with them.

I have one toy I am still keeping until now. I had it when I was 4 years old and it was my mom's friend who gave it to me during my birthday. I am hoping to pass it down to my first child. Its a stuffed animal, a bunny. I am already 27 years old now and I guess it has been with me for 23 years already. Wow! That's a keeper...=)

My mom always keep our toys for the future kids in the family and the oldest toys I guess we have is 12years old and it was my brother's toy which is now passed to our nephew, the good thing about using the old ones is that whenever it gets broken you wouldn't scold the kids since it was spent wisely...

This is very true..and the older toys are easier to let go of because you know you have gotten your (or your parent's) money's worth.

Yeah, some of my toys aren't suitable for my daughter yet but when she's old enough for them, I will give them to her.

Unfortunately not all of us are able to keep our old toys.
