Are you old enough to remember that? Ever morning in school I would cross my achy breky heart and pledge my American. My grandmother would turn over in her grave if she knew that we no longer did this and some of the things that have happened regarding our American Flag. She taught me the pledge and several patriotic songs. Also how to treat the Bible. Here is a link about a poll that Fox News has going on right now: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/05/06/american-flag-banned-america/ What are your thoughts on this issue?

Yep I remember saying the pledge every morning in school as well and I think it is foolish that they have taken it out the schools. I believe in god but I do not attend church and I am not one that likes when religion is forced upon someone. my feelings on this is why is it that the people that believe in god and enjoy saying the pledge have to give up something that they believe in and like? Why can't the people that don't believe in god or dont like the pledge step out of the room and ignore it? You know I don't believe in the devil and don't care for people that dress like the devil i.e goth but I still see it all around and have to deal with it or another example is smokers and non smokers...I quit smoking just over a year ago so i can go for both sides but in the eyes of a used to be smoker I don't see why everyone had to quit smoking in all these places because non smokers dont like it?? I guess it depends on whether a person is a smoker or not and what they like but now that I am a non smoker I don't go around thinking that the smokers need to not smoke around me....if this makes any sense LOL i feel like I went completely off track and rambled a little too much and still didnt get my point across LOL

I agree with what you say. I am an agnostic but I still respect the flag. I feel the flag is pretty far removed from God but whatever. Ya, why can't they pledge allegiance in a seperate room or something? I think we all need to learn to live and let live. We all need to walk a mile in other people's shoes and try to see it from their vantage point. I try to live by the Golden Rule and I wish more people would.

Yes, I remember it well. We should be outraged that even the thought of banning the flag (apparently in schools) has surfaced. Who are these Nazi/liberal/extremists who have no respect for this country, anyway? What idiots.

The link took me to a poll with no context. I voted (against banning the flag) and saw that 64% of the people who had voted agreed with me. Was there an article of some kind that I didn't see?

No. Just an email I got from a friend. I wondered where others were at as far as this issue went.

Oh celticeagle...alot of things have changed for sure. I do remember saying the pledge. Life would have stopped had I not every morning. I was also taught respect for the bible. Things sure have changed but there are still just some things that I teach mine.

I can remember the good old grade school days of my youth. I went to school each morning and chatted with my friends. The teacher called the class to settle down for the day. We stood with our hands over our hearts and recited the pledge of allegiance. There was no grumbling or groaaning or politics involved. We were happy to say it. i wonder if the school system wouldd be different had the pledge had not been removed? I think it should be put back in. Children and adults both need to show a little aand patriotism for the country they call home.

Wait, they no longer do this in school? I remember back in kindergarten we said the bledge and then sang "America The Beautiful" I believe it was. Now that you mention it, when we got into middle school I don't remember if we did this, I don't think we did this in High School either. Sad if the children no longer do this, I remember in Kindergarten it was an essential part of the day. I believe the announcements came on right after we did attendance.

Hi celticeagle I also remember saying the pledge allegiance to the flag when I was in grad school and on up to hight school and I felt like I belongs to a Great country. Now, I am worried **** What's going to become to the American that I knew and love? This is a wonderful discussion. Take care Snow
