I am currently on Twitter, but very rarely do people ever respond to me, it is actually starting to hurt my feelings. Does anyone use twitter? and do you get a lot of people to respond to you? Do you ever get celebrities to respond?

When you think about it, if you want responses to anything, use Facebook. If you want more friends on Facebook, have your Facebook wall automatically "tweet" for you and people can then find you on Facebook.
Spice up your Twitter background/wall paper a little bit to make it interesting to people. Add your Facebook URL to your Twitter account and if put something interesting on your Facebook Wall, which in turn shows up on Twitter, people will follow you on Twitter.
If you have a website or blog, use your website or blog URL on your Twitter profile so people can find you there.
But if you're trying to use Twitter as a means of another chat venue and expect people to respond to you, it's not going to happen. Twitter just isn't set up for that and that's not what anyone uses it for anyway.
I get traffic to my website and Facebook automatically from Twitter so that's why I have the account, but that's the only reason I have it. :-)

That's the only reason a lot of people have Twitter accounts. But see, for people who don't have blogs or websites that they want to get traffic to, there's not a lot that Twitter can do for them other than give them the chance to follow celebrities or the people who DO use their accounts for website traffic and updates. That's what I think this person's issue is - they are treating Twitter like a forum where you can just post and get responses when that is not what Twitter is. It's not a forum, and it's not even a social networking site anymore; it's become a tool for people who want more hype, followers, or website traffic. I have not used my Twitter in a very long time, but occasionally I get a notification that someone has followed me. They are never someone who's actually interested in a dormant account, but are just local or new bands or businesses trying to get attention by following a lot of people and hoping they get followed back. That's all most people do on Twitter anymore, and frankly I don't want to be part of a "community" that has turned into a nest of attention-mongering and capitalistic intentions.

I signed on to Twitter of course to follow some of the celebrities I really like. For that purpose it works really well. For the purpose of trying to get people to look at my blog or anything like that, I don't get many responses to things I tweet about.
I have even tried just asking a fun type question to see if anyone who follows me would comment and they still don't interact with me. I use facebook more because it is way more interactive.

I am currently on Twitter too, I have only few respond (you can count it in your fingers). I got 5 response from local celebrities with a very short words. They don not respond really on the person they do not know. It hurts me but I still want to continue on twitter cause all the news and whats happening around is in there. People keep on talking bout the latest news. I get to see celeb pics too and knowing what is happening and what's on their mind. I guess there are many tweets and they hardly see our tweets to them.

You are right the main reason I joined was to see what the celebrities were doing and any news I like hearing about right away.
It does get frustrating though when I feel no one wants to respond back with me.

Yah, I don't know why they do not reply to my tweets, but there is a particular woman, she's a local tv commercial model and she replied to me but I don't understand why she replied on my direct message. I greeted her on her birthday and she said "thank you" sending on my direct message. I find her sweet and considerate, thinking that I am just a normal person. I'm lucky I followed her!

facebook and orkut are best dear rather than twitter it is mostly used to set connection between celebrities and the people so if you wand to know more about celebreties cop up for twitter rather than facebook and orkut

It has a monthly service charge- I think it was either £30 or, more likely $30, and worked on referrals- but with a much higher payback. Since they did not even give me chance to evaluate it before charging me full tilt, my mail also contained words including su and don't shine!

I have a Twitter account but I have no clue how many followers I have or even how many people are following me - because - a few months ago when Twitter had problems with their account stats program, they never got around to fixing all of us who zero'd out. And my stats are still showing zero even though I get followed and I follow people back.
What do I use Twitter for? Just for traffic. I have my blog's RSS feed automatically feed any new updates to Twitter, which in turn feeds my Facebook Wall. I just have a bunch of things connected through Twitter so I really don't have to be ON the site "tweeting" all day about frivolous stuff. It's such a time waster actually and if you're in business, it's better to have it automated anyway.
That's my opinion.
Want to follow me? Easy... http://twitter.com/ksmusselman

That is a good idea.
I have to look at my blog and figure out how to get it to feed to Twitter, that really is all I want it for. I could have my facebook status feed to Twitter also, I am going to try to figure out how to do that.

I do use twitter. I think it's depending who you're mentioning or messaging. If I message or mention my friends, they always respond. Celebrities? Forget about it. They have like 500,000 followers, how can they respond to everybody? There's no way they can do that. If they respond to you, consider yourself lucky I would say. It's that hard to get celebrities to respond to your mentions. Imagine if you are a celebrity, you'll get like 20 pages of mentions, and once you respond 10 of them, another 50 new mentions would come again. It's really tough. But once a celebrity respond to you or mention you back, you'll get quite a number of extra followers. Don't be discouraged about this, there's much more to do in twitter other than trying to talk to celebrities. Even normal people sometimes don't respond because they don't know you.

I really understand what you are saying with the celebrities, I have tried to have them respond and have actually received two responses back so that was really excited. My problem is I tweet something out, even a simple question and not one of my followers, will ever answer back.

I joined Twitter once awhile ago, but rarely ever used it. At first I was just trying to get referrals, but it got boring. I am on Facebook and that's enough for me.
