I have a friend who has a 6 year old paint mare. She had her breed two years ago and had a foal. She had an awful delivery and the foal didn't survive! Last year she breed her again. Bella, the mare, didn't stay pregnant past 2 months! In April Bella was breed to a bay QH. She was checked after the first month and after the second month. Bella was pregant but now she isn't anymore! She went into heat and her owner isn't happy! Bella's owner is thinking about selling her because she won't stay pregnant! I wouldn't do that but I am not her! If Bella is sold I hope she isn't bred again!

4 is pretty young to be breeding her, I know, its done, but really, a horse isn't fully mature until 5 or so. I think this friend set up poor Bella for failure, and now she is miscarrying the foals.
If she does sell her, she should be required to tell them that she hasn't been able to carry a foal to term, it seems only right that the person getting her knows that they aren't getting a breeder.
Not that it would be a problem for many people who just want a horse to ride and enjoy, and not to breed.

Right now I don't know what she will do with Bella. I hope if she does sell her Bella is not used for breeding! It sure is ovious she can't stay pregnant! Now I just hope she doesn't start breeding her 15 year old Arab mare again! I sure won't! Unless she breeds her to a stallion who can improve her confirmation faults ( her back legs are bad. When she walks her fetlocks bend to far backwards). I am not crazy on the idea if she wouls consider it! I thin Bella and Sera's mom just want to produce foals to make money whcih I don't like! So we will see!

The mare needs to be checked out by a good repro vet and have a full breeding soundness exam done. A good vet should be able to figure out what's wrong. It might just be something minor that can easily be taken care of.

That won't be happening. I just heard Bella's owner is selling her and her Arab mare. Bella's owner broke up with her boyfriend. He was paying the rent and most of the bills. She was able to afford the horses that way! Now she can't! She got over her head and I hope Bella and the other mare Sera find good homes!

I hope they don't try & breed her again!!! Bella obviously has a problem that needs to be corrected before carrying a foal full term!!! I despise pet owners that treat their animals like Bella's owner treats her!!!! Animals are MORE than money making machines & should be treated like the living being that they are!!!

That has bothered me about Bella owner even since I have known her! She just wants a mare to produce foals and amke money off of them! She also has a 15 year ols Arab mare. She has had Sera for along time. Sear is unridable. She has lousey confirmation with her back legs. She can be bred and has been! I am waiting for her owner to start breeding again just to get a foal to sell out of her! On top of this the owner is a vet techniction! Go figure!
