I don't know why but I'm starting to hate those car freshener. It's rainy days in our Country and I don't have much choice but to take cab to keep myself away from too much commuters from taking the train and heavy traffic taking public bus to commute. So every time I take a cab I'll make sure that it doesn't have any sort of air freshener or else I'm gonna throw up.
(OMG) Sometimes it leaves me no choice but to take a cab with stingy air freshener or else I'll end up going home late...
Do you share same situation as mine? What do you do to make sure that you will not feel dizzy? What advice can you give for this kind of problem I frequently experiencing?

We are the same. I hate car freshener in the taxi cab, I seldom commute using it. I commute using PUJ even I will inhale the polluted air that is fine compare to artificial air. I always felt too that I want to throw up whenever there I am riding taxi and buses. Bus air condition is what makes me dizzy and throw up. Well we have no choice when we ride on the vehicles like that. What we can do is to cover our nose or eat something sweet to avoid us for being dizzy. If the travel is far, in a moment we will get used to it. My friend advice me to eat sweet and drink water, somehow it works. Sometimes it doesn't work and I am near to throw up, I just think I will not throw up than look humiliated.

Well polluted air doesn't smell good to me either but same with you I'd rather choose taking public bus and train whenever I fell like there's no traffic or I'm not on hurrying fighting for rush hour.
I love traveling. I even travel 2-3 times a month but I never choose to travel with those stingy smells with me or I might hate traveling at all.

The only solution I know Is have your own car. We cannot always ask someone to remove that kind of air freshener from someone else car even you are paying for it.I mean it is so rude when you do that the least you could do is just adjust yourself from the situation.

You have a good point right there, well at least when you have your own car you take control of how will it gonna smell like. Sad thing I don't have yet my own car but if I do i would definitely not gonna use any of those smelly thing. We have a family car but we never used air freshener.

We have similar dilemma. I am sensitive to some scented perfumes as well as car fresheners. I don't know why, but I just hate it and sometimes it triggers my migraine. Yeah, same like you are, I also throw up when the smell goes directly to my senses.
What I do is that, I ask the driver to take it off for a while. I have to be straightforward with the driver that I hate the smell rather than messing up on his cab.
Yesterday, I smelled this unexplainable scent of perfume. Probably it is too strong and I am more sensitive now because I have my period. I end up vomiting when I arrived home.
When you get to smell something that you hate, cover your nose and breath in. Try to find a scent with mint or something that soothes you.

Hi,
I also don't like to put car refresher in the car.
Once a while, I will just spray some refresher to my car and let the car
window open to have the air circulated.
I can't take the strong smell of car refresher, feel dizzy and like
want to vomit.
I understand, some people like to put those strong smell car refresher, especially
when taking those smelly cab, I really feel like getting out from it.
No choice, I also have to bear with the smell till I reach my destination.
You can cover your nose with tissue paper when you can't take that strong smell.

Cab/taxi drivers who uses strong air fresheners just to cover the odor of their cab are nasty. The smell of the air freshener and the odor inside their cab makes it more even worst.
I'd rather walk home than taking that kind of cab.

Those air freshener sooth deeply on my brain when I start smelling it. I thought those dizitab will work an hour after you took it? I never tried any anti-dizziness medicine, are they really effective?,.

Absolutely I agree with you I can smell someone's car freshener the minute I open their door, and it makes me sick to my stomach. If I am in a car with an air freshener in it I can literally smell it in my hair and clothing when I get home.
Yuck!

yeah, the smell stick around. But not all sort of freshener. The one I use does not give you that bad feel. It is not so strong , just gives an aroma and fragrance. Know what, if you do not put it at all you could feel sick because of other smell that is likely to get out of there.
So go for a moderate one that does not send you yukking.

Hi. mychickencurry. I love the smell of many air freshners that can come from a car itself. I love the ones that scent up the car for a long time too. To make sure that you are not dizzy, it is best that you don't ride in a cab that has a scent to it. Maybe your doctor could prescribe you with a medication that will help with your allergies to the car freshner. I hope that you will feel so much better very soon. Take care.

Hi,
Thank you that you reminded me of my car and its air freshener. When I checked it it was empty. I need to put up another immediately.
why most people feel it dizzy or sick I do not know. Many be the one in use is very strong. I have noticed even my son does not like much of that stuff.
But for me car freshener is a life freshener. The moment I enter and hold the steering I feel I am much fresher than before. however I put not so strong brand that sends me all breezy.

It really depends on the smell sometimes it is sensitive but sometimes I can tolerate it. I don't like the too much fruity, then sometimes if they lower cool the air con I could smell the too much air freshener that makes me so dizzy

I totally agree with you.I don't understand why they keep making and selling this product still when a lot of people are not comfortable with it.It would even make me throw up on long trips when I was a child. It really has that distinct smell that irritates my digestive system.

Yes, a there are a lot of these cars in my country too. A lot of cab drivers settle for cheap air fresheners which they eventually get used to despite its bad odor. What they don't realize is that most of their passengers hate it. I also get rather wheezy when I come across these type of air fresheners.

Same thing goes for me too...:D However, my brother likes the smell. Since he usually sits in the front seat, he places the car freshener near the aircon. Man! My only remedy to the dizziness is sleeping. Now, if my brother sits in front, I try to get hold of the car freshener and I hide it under the seats or simply throw it away...:D

i am having the same problem too, in fact my entire family dont like air fresheners.
my kids will throw up if we ride an airconditioned bus or taxi with air fresheners.
i dont know why manufacturers make it smell like that, it doesnt freshen air to me, it makes us feel dizzy.

I don't know but car fresheners don't really affect me. Everyone else in my family hates the smell. Well, except for my stap-father. He uses air freshener for both of his car and whenever we use the car, my sisters always cover their nose because they really can't take the smell. I take public transpo like bus and cabs but the smell does not really affect me at all. Well, sometimes, maybe if the scent is too overpowering for my nose. Why don't you just bring a menthol candy with you everywhere you go so that you can be sure that you won't throw up.

I hate the lemon smell of some fresheners that are also accentuated by airconditioned bus. That's why I don't like to ride on those especially if I travel far. And those that need to have their freshener changed then they should ddo that becoz those old ones gets stinky in the long run.
