Do you shop impulsively or do you plan your purchases very carefully?

So we are all different when it comes to our shopping habits. Some of us plan everything in detail, and some just go by impulse. Which shopping style best describes you? Me, I used to shop very impulsively, but the older I got, the more I started to realize that this was not actually a good idea. So these days I plan most of my purchases, and especially the bigger ones, very carefully. This makes it easier to avoid unnecessary purchases, and it also saves money.

For foodstuffs and other daily necessities normally I would make up a list and planned a day to do the shopping. That makes it very organized and I won't miss out any items. Shopping for leisure I seldom do, especially for window shopping. If I need something, I would browse a few shops or patronize those that I like, and get the item straightaway. The way to control impulsive shopping is probably to ask yourself, 1) do you really need it 2) do you already have something similar 3) how often would you use it Once you got through these 3 questions, you can buy it. Happy shopping!

Really thank you for your suggestions, maybe it wroks a bit for me from impulsive shopping. I think the most point is to keep sensible and good self-control in mind.

That comes from painful experience Even though I think I control my shopping, my things are still piling up. My wardrobe is almost bursting, and once I busted a bookcase hehe.

For me it all depends on money. If I have money I shop impulsively ans later repent on wasting it for waste!! ha ha On most occassions though of late I have been cautious and make a list before buying things..be it clothes or shopping for grocery. I infact learned from my mistakes.

I plan wonderfully everything but when I get to the store, I forgot all wonderful plans and still end up shopping impulsively!

Hello there! im a very careful individual talking about how i spend our earnings. For me, its better if im like this, i mean, very careful in every spendings i make rather than being impulsive shopper or spender. This way, i could save money to buy or pay much important things like tuition fee of my daughter and materials for the finishing touches of our new house. I will be like this forever., i guess, unless i became millionaire in the future, then i'll have the right to be impulsive sometimes, LOL!, Have a nice week end!

i have never done a lot of shopping in life...infact i have never done shopping. But things were different when i met my wife. She is a shopoholic and she used to shop a lot and that used to make me feel bad, but i never commented on it. i know girls shop a lot.

You are right, it is more of a female problem than a male one in a lot of cases I think, so I definitely see your point, edwardjoy2000!

I used to shop impulsively when i still don't have a responsibility. I buy whatever even if I did not really need it. Now that I ahve a son, I need to plan everything. I now make a list of the things that are needed and not just the things that are wanted.

I remember when i was in high school, the moment i got my money ... There I am running to malls to emptied my pocket.. I can't believe that I'm no longer like that. Even if I'm alone, I always think of my kids before myself. And I always plan what to buy before going to malls, So if ever I can see something delightful to my eye. I would think again, and just stick to what am I supposed to buy. But I have to admit that there were instances that my husband would say" it's ok go ahead". SO yes I grab those chances hahaha!

Of course you should grab those chances, ivygrey! I would too. Just as long as it doesn't happen all the time, it is certainly okay, and you should enjoy these moments!

Normally I will write a list before I go shopping. But people are not good in self-control all the time, and that rule is also suitable for me sometimes.Shopping impulsively occurs to me when I go shopping just for fun, especially it is exactly the day of the big sale. However,I usually find these purchases unnecessary for me only after a short period of time.I should train my abiltiy in self-control more.

I think this happens to everyone, it does to me as well, so no need to feel very bad about it. But there is always room for improvement when it comes to these things I think, unless you are already extremely frugal or something!

I plan what I want to purchase, especially the bigger things. But sometimes, I do spoil myself by buying some stuffs for myself as a present for all the hard work that I have done. ^^

I admit I do it sometimes, impulse buying. I just can't seem to control especially if the product is on sale. After buying and taking it home, then I would regret buying it. But still, I will try to use the product so as not to go to waste. :)

Oh yes, it is very hard to resist impulsive shopping during sales indeed! But in my case, I have gotten very many stupid things on sale that I never used afterwards, so I try to remember that when I run into sales somewhere. It helps! Thanks for your reply!

Hello puccagirl :) I'm trying to plan everything. But my plans work only for the money :D I don't see any luck in my daily plans and with my "to do list" :) But last time i'm very cheap in my shopping. It's well for the situation i'm in. I saw that when i go shopping without any plan i want a lot of other things and buy some of them because i have the money. At the end for 1-2 days they finish and i'm still looking what to do ... If it's for food, i like to shop once a week. That way i feel calm, because with that internet working earnings are not surely.

Oh yes, I think most people buy more when they have not planned their purchases. So nothing strange about what you just described at all! Thanks for your reply by the way!

well it depends on the individual choice and his purchasing power but as far as i am concerned i am not so impulsive in my purchasing habit because i always know that what i want and when i need a particular item.

My husband and I plan our purchases now, maybe not so carefully but we do plan them in accordance with our budget. We buy things we need and also things we want, but we buy things for others from food, to helping with household purchases. I love to shop but only if we have the money to do so. I also especially like to shop if it's for things for our future house etc.

If it is christmas time, then i usually go on the internet and get a few bits off it aswell as look in a few books that turn up to get gifts and i do impulse buy,but only if i have enough money.I try to save as much money as i can nowadays as there is things that i want todo in the future for my family.I think that there are alot of people out there that do alot of impulse buying and that is when they get into alot of debt.

I feel for the most part that I do try to plan my purchases carefully, but it don't always seem that way when I make it through checkout. I have my list in my mind, but always come out with one or two things that are not on it...lol

When I was still single, I use to shop impulsively. Go to the malls and then just buy whatever I see that I like. I use to splurge on shoes and bags. But now I plan my shopping. I make a list and i 'try' to stick to it. =) Although, sometimes hyou can't help but splurge.
