I'm having some trouble with my computer at home. I have Windows Vista Home Basic and until recently it was fine but now it won't install updates. Windows occasionally crashes and my explorer takes forever to open documents etc. The main problem is that it won't install updates, I have 26 updates ready to be installed but I keep getting an error message and I'm told the updates have failed. I don't have any trojans, viruses or spyware and I defrag and do a regular disk clean up. Help please :)

Hello Dnbc. It won't allow me to do a restore, a previous infection deleted my restore points :(

I honestly do not know all that much about computers but I think it is actually a good idea to have spyware or some type of thing like that on a computer. I THINK! I suck with computers but either way, I hope everything all works out for you.

Hello MrDollars. Thank you. I managed to fix the problem. After several scans I found a malicious file and removed it, the computer runs as good as new now

I think the above posters are right. You might have something that blocks the updates from running. You can try to run windows in safe mode, disconnect your internet connection and try to do system restore. I hope you get a solution to this real fast.

Hello Xtedaxcvg. Thank you for your help, I ran a few scans with AVG, Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro now my computer seems to be running better but it still won't install updates. I can't do a system restore because there are no restore points. Anyway thanks for helping :)

Do you have antivirus? If you do, you can try clearing your cache.

Hello Rinouex. Yes I have AVG and I've done a few things with that and a full scan. It seems to be an error but I'll need the code.

hello autumn Gold you didn't mention the anti-virus that you are using. I would like to recommend that you go to Microsoft's online website for help regarding Windows Vista. Experts from Microsoft will contact you as soon as possible. In the meantime, all I can suggest at this moment is that you should run the system restore facility.

I think that you need to run Antivirus also check in the settings that you have enabled the windows updates so that it will update accordingly.I am also using Windows Vista only and its working fine for me.You also just check whether u enabled windows firewall as it wont allow any unnecessary phishing site.Let me know these things then will advice you accordingly.

Hello Piscesgamer. I have AVG free version on my computer and that seems to block out the threats. Windows firewall is disabled because I have firewall router and I was told to just use that. I hope I can install the updates soon because I don't want my computer to die :(

Sounds a lot of trouble. They are right about you having possibly a malware or virus. Your system is corrupted. First try the system restore. But that might not work but its worth to try. I recommend you download a free version of ccleaner and clean your registry. ANd try also those mentioned on above posts if this doesn't work. Research on the error code windows is giving you.

Hello, it is not correct to say "I don't have any trojans, viruses or spyware". Cause Windows Vista is the main virus on your computer :D Why don't you install XP or Win7 (not that I fully recommend win7). Windows Vista was a fail and it will always be :)

Hello Wazaaa. You could be right and Vista could be the problem. I should have kept XP :)
