In your daily life what do you do to help save the environment?

Probably you could feel how the climate have changed these days. Summer seems hotter and longer. When it rains... well not only it pours, a storm seems to always follow. One reason for this change are the effects of what we do to the environment. So the question is, what do you do to help save the environment?

Hi archon309. I help the environment by recycling as much as possible. Tewkesbury Borough Council makes it really easy to recycle by issuing every family with a blue wheelie bin. In this bin goes cardboard, plastic, glass and tins. They have also encouraged people to recycle by reducing the normal bin collection to once a fortnight. As well as the above I never leave lights on if a room is empty and as a family we try to be as efficient in our use of energy as we can be. We have also had our loft insulated to help stop heat loss.

interesting... and in that bin, does it have separate compartments of sorts that you can segregate the garbage? (sorry we don't have it here heheh)

No it doesn't. It gets taken to a recycling centre were it is separated out into the different materials. All we have to do is fill the blue bin and somebody (or something) does the rest.

It is sad that we have the fuel and energy companies in the worl agianst us. Where they should invest in alternative means of energy such as solar power or wind power, they would rather invest in warfare trying to get their hands on the remaining natural resources such as crude oil. It does not take away our responsibility to do what we can to preserve the earth, it would just make it a hell of a lot easier if we had these people to back us up. 1 More thing you can do to help preserve water is to put a 1.5 liter container into the resrvoir of your toilet. This will result in using that much less water every time you flush. Bricks also work well, just wrap them in tin foil before you put it into the tank.

hmm... interesting, bricks to fill up the water tank? That's a good suggestion. :)

I try to watch my paper consumption, although this hard because I'm a writer and editors want what they want, how they want. I try to remember to turn off lights when I leave a room. I'm bad at this, but getting better. I try to recycle.

Well.. no matter how little we contribute to help the environment counts and we always have to start little by little. :)

What I do to help the environment is eat a plant based vegan diet in which all of my food scraps that I generate can be composted and put back into the earth. We also buy most of our food from farmers markets which means that we have very little packaging that ends up in landfill. Most of our packaging can be recycled. Another benefit to eating this way is that we are not supporting the industries that are the most harmful to the planet like the meat and dairy industries. We also do not use as much electricity as we are not cooking food as much.

hi archon309! i'm willing to help to save the environment. Starts on the basic things that we don't appreciate. By recycling, segregating the garbage and telling my family and friends about our environment situation and convinced them to help save the environment.

Yes.. that is good... Sad to say though, waste segregation is not entirely practiced here in our place :(.

I try to plant and care for trees, not all of them survive but I keep trying.

i plant varieties of plant ornamental and trees. I also don't ask for plastics bags if I bought something in the market than I could carry and need not no packaging anymore. I usually gather empty bottles/platic of soda and instant teas and when they accumulate in number I bring them to recycling shops or junk shops. An extra pennies for me..hehe

wow that's very nice of you. SM gives the shoppers an option to use their green bag instead of the plastic bags right? I hope all malls are like this.

At home, we practice waste segregation. At work, I participate in tree panting activities.

that's wonderful. Waste segragation really helps . At home too I initiated segregation of waste. We bury all the food left overs thus fertilizing the soil. and disposing the non biodegradable to the city's garbage collectors. also we sell the plastic containers bottles, and cans to the junk buyers for recycling.
