Kitten dilemna

My cat died a few months ago and although I'd like another cat I don't feel ready to have another just yet. Everything was fine until two weeks ago when my friend announced that her cat had given birth to 5 kittens, cute little things. She told me to take my pick and I know she's only being a friend but I really don't want a kitten just yet even though they're so cute. How do I tell her? She's so enthusiastic about me having one that I almost feel obliged to.

Be truthful, tell her thanks, but you are not ready for another cat right now. If she is a good friend, she'll understand.

I'm sure she will..Oh, and sorry about your loss, I hate it when a beloved pet is gone. I still miss my dalmatian, she was awesome even if she was deaf..

Yes it's always bad when we lose a pet, they are part of the family. That reminds me I need to upload that photo of my dog :)

Just tell her that you are not ready yet, that you have not gotten over the loss of your cat. She will understand. I am sure if she went through the same situation that she lost a pet that she had cared for and had been in the family for years, she would figure that no pet could replace it. You could ask her to reserve one for when you would be ready though.

Hello suspenseful. I think she's looking to get rid of them to good homes asap. They're beautiful, cute little things and I'd love to take one but I'd only be doing it to please her so I have to be honest with her and say no :(

That is what I would have done. Besides there might have been a young girl who was really dying for a kitty and you would have broken her heart by keeping one. [ So you did the right thing.

That's a good point and as Ellie said I'd be better off getting a mature cat, kittens are a lot of work and a little girl would enjoy a kitten more than I would right now :)

Just tell her that you are not over the loss of your cat, also that you are not ready to look after another cat.You know the same as i do that it is hard to replace a cat as they are all different and nothing will make up for the loss of the cat that you have lost.

Hello Jugsjugs. That's true, we can never replace a pet and that's why I don't want another cat just yet, it would feel like I was replacing my other one and that's not right.

kittens are so cute! I think you should go for it. when we were in the village. we had two cats, and they were so cute! But when we moved to the city, we had to leave them there. Poor cats were so worried, they could feel that we were going to leave them alone. The good thing was we had servants there to feed them daily. But they couldn't stay in that house for a long time, they probably ran away or something. So I think you should have the kitten! They are so ADORABLE!

Hello Ehsanji. Kittens are adorable and I'm tempted to have one but just not yet. I think Ellie's idea is a good one though so I could get a mature cat instead cos after all they're not kittens for long and they're a lot of work when they're kittens. It's a shame you had to leave your cats behind :(

Your friend simply thinks that you miss your old kitty and probably would like to have another pet at home.If she's a good friend she'll understand.I bet she only wants to make you happy and having a pet(specially a kitty!) will cheer you up!

Hello Jessicaramos. Yes he thinks she's doing me a big favour and that's what makes it hard to say no because I don't want to hurt her feelings. I'll just have to be honest and tactful :)

I am truly sorry about your cat. Many people don't understand why people would get so upset about a pet dying but even animals can become just like family. I have a cat too. Just good company.
Your friend is just trying to help and I guess she must think that having a new one would take your mind off the one you have recently lost. In the end and obviously, the decision is up to you. Whenever you're ready, get one. For now, just think about it. Good luck.

Hello MrDollars. Thank you. I decided not to have one. She was a bit disappointed but if I'm not ready for a kitten just yet it was only right to be honest with her.

Hi Autumngold, Sorry to hear of your loss, they become like family don't they. Just tell your friend that you are still grieving and if and when you do want another cat you would rather one that is a cat looking to be rehomed not a kitten as because as cute as they are they are very hard work also. As a previous response said you could be stopping a little girl from down the road desparate for a kitten. Just say you appreciate the sentiment and that she is trying to help but a firm no should work. Hugg;es. Ellie :D

Hello Ellie. They do become like family, it's always a shame when we lose a pet and takes time to get over it enough to get another. Getting a cat instead of a kitten seems a better idea and it will save me from having to house train it :)
