Very few plants can live in salt water, so that means salt is not suitable for weeds. If I scatter salt in my backyard will it prevent the occurrence of weed popping out of nowhere?

Spreading salt all over your yard will kill everything. Maybe if you take really salty water and pull up the weed then spray it right where the weed was it will stop more from popping up in the same spot, but then maybe grass won't be able to grow there either.

I don't like grass. I love tropical trees like ficus though, I keep indoors, I have a Rock Landscape with a small pond with pond plants. I just don't want to deal with weeds.

I have heard that if you pull the weeds that grow in between patio stones from the roots and then spray really hot water over the patio with a touch of salt then the weeds will stop from growing there. But I do not recommend throwing salt all over your backyard, you're going to kill everything there and nothing will ever be able to grow there again.
