I plant a tomato plant awhile back, and I watered it etc. Yesterday, I notice it had two small green tomatoes. I am really excited because I did not think it was going to thrive because I planted it late in the season. Anyone have any ideas as to how to keep squirrels etc from tomato plants.

Put sticks first around your plants and then attach the net to the sticks. I used to to do it for my chili peppers that are being eaten by birds. Or maybe you can use an electric fence? Is it legal to kill squirrels in your place? Just curious.

I am going to use the net with sticks like you suggested.

Not sure if it illegal to kill squirrels, but I would not kill them. They are God creatures and have a right to share the earth with us human.

lol. Squirrels are too cute. I wish we have them here in the Philippines instead of those pesky stray dogs and cats.

Try buying a bag of peanuts and feed the squirrel, he will prefer the peanuts to the tomatoes. If you put out something for them to eat more to their taste, like peanut butter and oatmeal balls or nuts slightly away from where you want plants they might learn to look there. I have heard about different kids of sprays but I would say first try to buy some screen from Home Depot and covered the plants.

You have to put a net around your plant as intruders including squirrels will make their appearance at all times and you cannot possibly sit there like a scarecrow chasing away these little creatures. But have you watched the squirrel nibbling? It is such a beautiful sight! I have. I have also taken pictures of these beautiful creatires in action!

I brought some chicken wire, and I am planning to put up a fence. I think tomorrow early before the sun comes out I will do it.
