Which is better? Preserve old and historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings? i want to know your opinions and reasons according to your cities' conditions or your experience.

Historic buildings are an important element in the flow of our culture through time: a child visits a historic government building to learn more about what it means to be
an American; a city resident on a historic farm learns about pride and commitment in working the land. Historic buildings are studied to tell us about use of materials and creative solutions in everyday living.Historic buildings are important for our future. These resources need protection. We cannot afford to loose the physical materials, ideas, skills and knowledge of our past.

yeah.i think the most important element that make the buildings seem valuble is TIME. Cause we cannot be back to the past, these buildings reflected the previous conditions are almost the only way for us to learn more about the past.

I think that should depend on what kind of old and historic buildings they are, and what they would bring us in the future. It is necessary to preserve them is they have some educational meaning for the country or to the children. Otherwise, we just need to consider the economic benefit to decide wheather it is necessary to replace them or not.

i agree that whether or not these buildings should be preserverd depends on their own meanings. However, it's in fact a rigid standard that is very difficult to operate. Cause every generation has its own thoughts according to the different developmental phases. And every generation has its own specific limitation of thinking. Thus, the buildings we think should not be preserved may also have some useful meanings in the future and vice versa.

Historic buildings are old and most of them are useless but i feel a sense of pride when i see one. i'ts like seeing your photographs from your birth to the present i feel just like that.
but i would think the other way around if the whole city is gonna be a historical city without new technological advancement.

I prefer if the old and historic building remain as it can be an attraction for the tourists. There are many commercial buildings but there are only a few building left that has historical value. What is the use of having picture of old building store in museums when it cannot be touch or explore like the real thing. Historic building might look old and may be not as fashionable as new building but i bet many people like to take photos since it is more meaningful.

Hi littlemint!
I sure do. It's our past, our history and needs to be preserved. They have sentimental values. They represent life as it used to be and tell stories of their owners and the people who have passed their doors. Old buildings add character, life and adds value to a place. Besides they can also be tourists-pullers.

Yes, I think it is important to save some old buildings, especially important landmarks, even if it costs a bit of money. It is important to be reminded of our history and traditions, modern and new is not always better!
