We had a great time!!

So we just got back from the company picnic. A couple days ago I said I was worried it wasn't going to be fun because we were having it at the beach, and I thought people would spend more time in the water and not so much time mingling and chatting. Well I was wrong. It was a blast and I can't wait for next year's picnic which will be held at the same place! When we got there it was cloudy, windy, and cold, so nobody was thinking of going into the water.. thankfully it did not rain though. My kids had some other kids to play with, my little ones had a blast just running through the puddles from all the rain we've recently been getting (they were so wet they had to wear their swimsuits home!), my oldest was tossing the football around with some of the guys hubby works with.. and hubby and I mingled and chatted with some of his work friends. After awhile the sun came out, but only a few families went to the water... most everyone else stayed and mingled. After being there for about 4 hours we decided we'd go down to the water ourselves, and we stayed there for about an hour.. the kids all collected some sea shells.. it's a really great beach. By the time we were done swimming everyone else was packing up to leave. We were there for probably about 5 hours! What a great day.. and some good memories for my kids! Does your company do a summer picnic? When was the last time you went to a big picnic at the beach? And how was it?

Hi kats! So happy to hear that you guys had such a great time! It sounds like it was alot of fun! I haven't been to a beach now in quite a few years. We have to go quite a distance to find a decent beach and since we don't have a car I have to be at the mercy of whichever friend is going to whichever beach and the fees are quite costly when you include gas and tolls too! And they are all extremely small and fill up quickly so if you aren't there first thing in the morning you don't even get a spot and then you are packed in by mid-afternoon! Not my idea of fun at my age anymore! Sounds like my idea of a perfect day at the beach for you and your family and a picnic too! I always loved collecting sea shells! Still have quite a collection too!

Thankfully we do have a good number of beaches here since we're fairly close to many lakes. There's Onondaga lake but of course no swimming because it's one of the most polluted lakes in America.. but we are driving distance to Oneida lake.. which is where we were yesterday.. and of course there are the finger lakes which aren't far from us either.

Actually getting to any of the lakes is about an hour or so drive from me... I'm actually just outside Syracuse.

Oh! So that's where you live! My parents used to go there for their "vacations" (when they were speaking and getting along)! So now I know where you live! It's quite beautiful. I've seen the "finger lakes" many times on my way to Canada!

Hey that is great news!!! Yay!..Well, Last time I went to the beach was on July 7th and I got totally french fried..owieeven though I put on sunblock..but after being in the water so long I didn't reapply..not something I won't forget to do again.. I am really glad your fears didn't stop you from going and that you had a great time.. So I take it that the food thing went okay also? I know you were afraid that you'd all end up with nothing but hot dogs..I was hoping that We could get back to the beach before school starts on August 4th..but not sure if we will be able to..be cool to have a cookout and beach bash and some fun before school starts again.

School won't start for us until first week of September. From what it seems, each GM brought meat for their own store.. one store did kabobs which looked real good, another store did steak and chicken... our GM brought enough hamburgers and hot dogs to feed an army (because he knew my kids were going, lol).. but all the salads and other stuff was fair game.. they just lined it all up on a table and everyone was welcome to all of it.. not sure if it was meant to be that way or not, but that's how it turned out. So I couldn't have a steak.. oh well, I didn't really want one anyways. I had a burger and it was great and the salads rocked too!

Thanks for the response it is appreciated, The weather will start to get a little cooler...people best get in a few more cookouts while they can this year..although lady bugs are out in style right now and they like getting into everything..especially the cobwebs we put out for Halloween decorations.

Only one place I have ever worked had a company picnic and it was not one for peoples families. It was during the work day and for employees only. We had burgers, hot dogs, and chicken along with some chips and soda. Nothing fancy. It was also held on the company grounds.

I've been to a few of those as well. When I worked at Walmart.. which was forever ago, when I was first preggers with the twins.. we did one of those and each employee had to donate either a dish to pass or $. We had it right in the break room.

My dad's company used to do these picnics that were really great. My company has done some things off and on, but it isn't an annual big thing. I'm not sure I've ever been to a big picnic on the beach like that, just family picnics.

Wow! What a fun time you all had. That's great. Regretfully, I had skin cancer a couple of years ago and so no longer go to the beach much and when I do I am slathered with sun block. The cancer was on my face but no scars are left, thank God.It was not melanoma so I give thanks for that too. My crowd at home go frequently and I am arranging for a freebie for everyone to go to a place where they can touch the Dolphins and feed the sharks and sting rays. They also see a mini zoo. We went last year and had so much fun. This was something that the twins remembered and so they keep asking me to see the dolphins again. They just touched them as they are too young to be in the water with them. On of the owners where I work gave us free passes that included everything. I am going to ask him again. He and his wife are having their second child and I know that he will say yes to me.

Where I work unless we employees decide to get together they don't throw anything like that.....they are to cheap! LOL....It's been a long time since I went to the beach for a party! We have a family thing every year at a lake so if you want to include that then every year I do....sometimes it's fun and sometimes it's not.

My company right now doesn't have that kind of picnic. However the company i had previously organized events like that and I really missed it. The last time I went to a picnic in the beach is when my beau visited us in our hometown. We had beach picnic with my son and with my family that was December 2009 and its been a long time a go. I guess its time to organized another events like for family only.
