The cold drink machine in the laundry is jacked up! So when I put my change in the other day after about the third or fourth coin it got jammed. I pushed the "change return" button and four quarters came out. But I didn't put any quarters in.. so I looked a little closer and saw there was still a handful of coins jammed. I walked back over to my apartment and got a knife -stuck it in and dislodged the coins and made a few cents off the deal along with enjoying my cold drink! The next day I went back with my handy knife and got another few coins unstuck from the machine. So do you think it's stealing or taking advantage of the situation?

I don't necessarily disagree, but who am I stealing from?

More taking advantage of the situation. It is so aggravating when things don't work right. We have all lost alot of change in those machines.

Yep..and there's not a deposit box and I can't go around asking everyone how much they lost. i guess I could post a sign and have them write it in..but i'm sure the amount lost would be far more than what I got out of the machine!

If it does not belong to us, it's not righteous to keep even a cent. When the rightful owner cannot be found, give it to the poor or offer it to God who is more than able to return the same value to its rightful owner and reward the honest returner.

Nah definitely taking advantage of the situation but I would probably do the same thing. Those vending machines charge way more than what the drink is actually worth to start with so I think you are just paying true value.

Well, if I went around and asked the residents I figure everyone lost the same money! If I wait for the vendor it is not really theirs either as it never made it into the machine!

Once that money is in the machine...no matter WHO put it there, and whether it's jammed or not, trust me my dear...it DOESN'T belong to you. Also, vandalism isn't really the coolest idea either. I'm actually surprised you needed to ask such a question.
One more thing...most vending machines, usually have a phone number to call in case of damages, of difficulty in its operation. If not, then the owner of the laundry would know who to call....and I'm sure, they TOO have a phone number listed, somewhere.
