So I really want to get a dog sometime soon and I've been trying to decide what kind I want to get. But its so hard to choose. I think I'm leaning in the direction of a German Shepherd or a Huskie. But I was wondering what people's favorite kind of dogs are?

I have Collies and Collie mixes at the moment. Collies are great dogs. But my first dog and my favorite was a Malamute/Lab mix I think mutts are great! If you haven't had a Husky before.. Just a warning this is not a dog that you can really trust to ever be off leash. They like to run and will escape to do it. Make sure you do a little research on dogs before you decide. And remember there are so many out there to be rescued- even purebreds. But My best dogs have been mutts -they have a lot to offer.

Yeah mutts are definitely good. But the mutts you mentioned all sound like they would have been dogs that needed a lot of grooming. He doesn't want to have to do a lot of grooming. But Collies and Malamutes are both beautiful dogs!! I bet the malamute/lab mix was awesome! Yay For Mutts!

Yes, my mutts require grooming but mainly just during their shedding seasons.. My collies are more like- all the time.. :-) German shepherds and huskies will both require a fair amount of grooming. and Huskies Shed BIG time twice a year. you may want to look into lab mixes.. (I personally wouldn't get a full blooded lab - a little to hyper for me) - but I have had to lab mixes and loved them. You should really check out a bunch of dogs.. and see if they are compatible for your household. If you like a couple different ones.. Do a search looking for a mutt that is a combination of both.. He may be out there just waiting for you to rescue him.

What type of dog do you want? I mean, do you want an active dog that you can take jogging or do you want a dog that will lounge around the house with you? Do you have time to groom your dog, or do you want one that won't need a ton of brushing/bathing/upkeep? You've already shown that you want a big dog so that's out of the way. Tell me some things you'd like in a dog and I bet I could give you a few breeds! I've worked with most of them! :) *I say this to anyone in a discussion like this. PLEASE adopt from a shelter or rescue, do not buy from a breeder!!!* I will also help you search for a dog in rescues/shelters if you want! :)

I definitely wouldn't have time to do a ton of grooming. But I definitely want a dog that's friendly and playful, growing up I had a german shepherd, terrier mix. She was really active but without being insanely hyper so that's the sort of temperament I want.

Doberman - Beautiful, sweet dogs
You may like a Doberman. I worked with a few of them and they were extremely sweet dogs (despite their tough look). I absolutely loved all the dobermans I worked with!! They are also really smart dogs! Not to mention they have a great sleek look! There are plenty of doberman rescues :P

I have a lot of different favorites. I think Bernese Mountaindogs and Saint Bernhard's are really cute, and I also like Dog de Bordeaux.

The most popular purebreed dog of the last year was Labrador Retriever. German Shepard came second, followed by the Yorkshire Terrier. That's for the people's favourite kind of dogs. But I don't think someone should adopt a dog depending on other people's preferences. You are the one who should live 10 to 14 years with the chosen dog, so you have to decide according to your preferences. I don't advice you to choose the dog after the way he looks. There are a lot of more important criteria you should consider. Try out a breed selector quiz, there are a lot on the internet, like this one: http://www.pawnation.com/2009/08/28/choosing-dog-breed-quiz/ Good luck! Please, let us know what you decide.
