I wonder why some people do not upload an avatar and simply leave it as the default one given by mylot. I like to see people's avatars, be it their own person or any picture they like because it's interesting to see what people attach to their identity. You can see from mine that it is something close to my username.
So, what do you think about your own avatar or why do you not upload one? Do you want to remain annonymous and "faceless"?

My hobby is photography and I capture images from my own garden. I do flower arrangements of which I have several pictures taken. I keep changing my avatar by uploading from my own image collections.

Oh wow, that's so interesting to know. I would not have guessed about the origin of your avatar, so I'm glad you told us here.
Keep up with your photography, taking good pictures can give one great pleasure.
Looking forward to seeing your next floral arrangement!

Hi bluemoon,
Actually our avatar picture is an identity of us, so giving an avatar can get recognition from members easily. I am noticing the avatar picture of a member when interacting with that person. Most probably I am not noticing the user name the reason is most of the people are opting a user name than their own name so it is difficult for me to remember the username if it is long. So I prefer to remember the avatar picture is an identity of that person.
I am not sure why some people are not putting a picture as their avatar.

Hi Sreekala,
You reflect my sentiments exactly. In my mind, I need to have a combined image of both the username and the avatar to identify a person
If a person changes his/her avatar often, all the better because I get to see more sides of him/her and sometimes I get very pleasant surprises.

Hi bluemoonpavilion, i am not actually particular about users not uploading avatars of their choice but yes you have a point here, it certainly is better if they did coz it shows what they would like to relate to when we want to address them. I like my avatar coz i do play drums. And i am never going to change that, i like it that much. .. And if anybody wants to actually see me, i have uploaded my personal pic as well, they only need to bother checking my profile :) .. good day.

Hi voldrox,
I'm not criticizing those who did not upload any avatar but rather I'm curious as to why they didn't do that. Your avatar is very interesting, we do not get to see so many animated ones here. I also like to keep my avatar constant maybe because I'm just lazy to change it
Your profile looks great! I like the backgroud showing a quiet road with trees. Are you an IT expert? How did you manage to do that? I would like to learn that.

Hi bluemoonpavilion!
I've enjoyed looking at avatars. Sometimes the avatars add to the effective impact of the discussion. I love to think they speak for the person behind. And I love changing mine from time to time.

Hi bluemoonpavilion!
That's the least I can do to show my support for the Youth Olympics. Her maiden debut on a great honor here in the Merlion City. Many years from now people would be asking "Where was the first YOG held? Oh is that true, and where is this place called Singapore?"
Personally I love them myself. They represent our country and they represent the vivacity of youth. Thanks for the commendation.

Hi tomi,
Yes, I want to commend you for putting up this avatar, our mascot for the Youth Olympics. It is great to see that! Aren't you just proud of our country!

Luckily your username is easy to remember. I find some to be very long and difficult to remember so I would rely on their avatars. I have even seen some people changed their usernames too and I didn't know it was actually the same person until I saw someone mentioning his/her previous name.

Yes, it is nicer to see the person has taken the time to upload an avatar.
It's also how you get recognized on myLot.
You don't see many penguins around myLot these days, do you?

hi bluemoonpavilion I do not have a camera so no pic of my self so instead I chose one of the many graphics I have made, as that might show my slight talent for making my own grahics, I just play around and have a lot of
fun doing it.

Well, my avatar are flowers. My name is a name of a flower that is why I choose flowers as my avatar. I don't understand why some people don't want to download avatar in their profile. Maybe they don't want to be identified or they liked that blank face hehehe...

Maybe they dont know how to do it. It took me weeks before I uploaded by first photo cause I didnt know how to do it. Maybe for some they just wanted to keep their privacy by not showing their faces. It doesnt say here in mylot that we are required to post our pictures anyway.

If they make it obligatory, we would find it a chore and that would defeat the whole purpose.
The fun part is when we didn't know what to expect and people just come up with all the different kinds of avatars. It's interesting to see that.

LOL, I'm much a "defaulter" and usually I leave my avstar blank unless I decide to be pretty active in a forum. I have noticed that in many forums, the admins give some rewards to stimulate members upload their personal avstar.
Maybe some myLotters think that use the time to post and earn is better than to upload an avstar?

Does mylot give any reward for uploading our avatar or changing it often? I wish it does, then we can earn a lot
So your opinion is that, the time is better spent on posting rather than uploading a picture for our avatar?

Hi Terrencehenry,
Newbies can upload avatars at anytime, just go to Preferences customize your profile
and upload/update your avatar. Here's a link if you can't find it: www.mylot.com/nr/editcustomize.aspx
I hope to see yours up soon.
Cheers!

I also hate people doing that. Leaving it blank. Like other social networks. It seems like they are not proud of what they look like or maybe they look scary :D

You are quite right. I don't like people who have the default avatar as their own avatar. Some new members may not know how to make it, this can be understanding. However, some old members seem to keep on this default avatar and this is strange. It is not that difficult to upload your own avatar. It will be impressive for people to know who you are according to your avatar.
I love China

Yes, the new members are given full understanding as they may not be familiar with the works yet. I find it strange that there are many who have posted quite many (I mean those with 100 posts) and still remain faceless. I'm curious to know their rationale, why they are unwilling to reveal this bit about themselves.

Do you enjoy being annonymous? Do you do that for other forums or sites that you belong to?
I'm just curious as to why do you want to do that. Is it fear of revealing yourself too much or you are actually generating more interest that way?

Starting discussions and answering to any conversation, anything you write already contains something about you. Behind your response you already show to people who and how you are. Your thoughts, way of live, your character and habits are hidden behind your answers. So once you start using mylot, you're not annonymous any more.
But regarding "faceless", you are right. It is nicer to see any avatar or picture, any photo gives more live to the conversation, makes it more interesting and easier to handle with the conversation. Also the photo or avatare you choose says a lot about yourself.

You are quite right, that what you wrote already tells something about yourself. I just thought that I could attach some significance to the avatar people uploaded, something to represent themselves and showcase to the world.
