Should I host my own Blog, or use a free blog hosting website?

If you host your blog in your own domain, much of the benefits will accrue to you. But success also has its corresponding problems like bandwidth limits or capacity that you have to pay for. However, if your blog is making money, this may not be that big a problem. There are also security issues that you have to contend with when hosting in your own domain. If you install, say WordPress Mu, you will have to keep your copy of WordPress, third-party templates and the add-ons regularly updated to plug any security loopholes. If you have a good domain name that is the centerpiece of your branding efforts, I strongly recommend that you host your own blogs. Having said this, what you must know is that freely hosted blogs play an important role in making your own domain successful. You need them to provide incoming links and web traffic. Simply put, having the freely hosted blogs pointing to your main site will go a long way in increasing your domain's page rank.

I think that it is better to use a free website like Webs or Blogger because when you are using your website to make money it maybe harder then you think and there is no need for the extra stress paying for a website. I use both blogger and webs and they have worked great for me. Try it first and if you don't like it then upgrade to a paid website.
