Do you take your vitamins?

Singapore

Most of us may in our lifetime have consumed vitamins for some reason or other. Do you solely depend on capsules for your vitamins intake or make a conscious effort to have your fruits and vegetables to boost your dietary requirements. I know of people who set aside money on buying capsule vitamins from the big pharmaceutical shops like GNC and Nature's Farm. Personally, I do set aside some money for vitamins to support eye and vascular health. What about you?

I do NOT take vitamins! but im STRONG AND HEALTHY! i have never been to the hospital yet being confined with any kind of disease or accidents. But i have a semi annual medical check up with our family doctor. and intervals for job-required medical exams. i just really watch my diet carefully and eat nutritious foods. I am fond of eating vegetables and fruits. i eat pork only twice a week and not that much! i am not fat or too thin. i just take vitamins like ascorbic acid every time i am going to have colds or cough. then it will just go away after a few days. So guys, just eat healthy foods and just minimize your vices and you will be healthy without these supplements!

whoa aaronfyzeon, you are a true advocate of natural food and healthy living. Stay that way and you probably will be quite good. Hopefully it will buffer you through the adversity effects of life - through injuries and surgeries and old age ailments too.

Hello there! well if it would really come to me then I would really could not avoid it especially if its is accidents that will experience these injuries and surgeries that you were referring. Even if a person is actually taking vitamins from A - Z he will also be in the same situation if he encounters accidents. If it comes to the old age you were also referring then all of us will come to that point in our lives wherein we experience joint pains. with that, just avoid eating foods that is rich in uric acid. I really am not an advocate of synthetic medicines. sorry! who knows better than all that but a chemical engineer who worked before in a pharmaceutical company. ehemm! cheers!

I don't take the vitamins because I regard it as a kind of medicine. I prefer to take something natural. I want to obtain the vitamins and other elements from the food. I think this is the best way. I love China

hi youless, it is good to take vitamins from the food you eat and one must be conscious of the food we are consuming ourselves. If you are considering consuming vitamins later on in life, perhaps getting vitamins from a good international brand will be good, if it is possible.

Hi, I do not consume any multi-vitamin currently. I understand there are plenty of multi-vitamins brand available in the market and they served different purpose too. However, I just stay healthy by eating more vegetable and fruits daily. I do heard about GNC and Nature's Farm and I am yet to try it out. How good are their products? I do drink Redoxon once a week, to prevent me from getting flu easily. Drink plenty of water might help to stay healthy.

Hi Carpediem, Yes..Redoxon is available in Asia countries, but I am not sure whether can get it worldwide. There are plenty of range also for Redoxon itself. Down at my country, it comes with different flavours and serve for adults and elderly too. But I can only find those redoxon for adult in my current town. I heard about Nature's farm before and I don't know that they got sell Manuka Honey. I heard from my friend that manuka honey is very good and it is not cheap too. How much is it selling at your place?? I think of getting manuka honey for my son.....it is good to drink honey one cup a day...to stay healthy.

Hi Shia88, thanks for your feedback. I've heard of Redoxon and I think it is quite good. GNC is from the United States and they have a lot of vitamins packaged for easy consumption. I think Nature's Farm has its original in Asia (more particularly Singapore). I am attracted to Nature's Farm as its products are derived more 'naturally'. For e.g. I get my Manuka honey supply from Nature's Farm besides my eye-care vitamins. They source their products from New Zealand, Japan, amongst others. I think with my regular vitamins intake, my general health is much better.

Currently, I don't take vitamins for my health. I used to take vitamins, especially Vitamin C to keep my immune. Since I join K-link, I consume herbal drink to keep my body health and keep me away from sick. I always drink Liquid Chlorophyll. This beverage made of chlorophyll of alfalfa. This beverage contain fiber so it's very good for cleansing. Moreover, this beverage help balance my hormone. This beverage really give me much benefits for my health despite of vitamins.

Thanks de_toya. That is interesting and something new that I have not heard before, that is drinking liquid Chlorophyll. The taste must be rather hard to consume though.

There was a time when I was concerned about my calcium intake and I took vitamins for it. But I am not a pill person, I find it difficult to swallow pills, so my bottle of vitamins was only half-finished and now enjoying its long vacation in my fridge. I found no difference in my health before and after taking the supplement so I guess I do not really need it. I would think it is better to have that from fruits and vegetables. Normally we require only a small amount and our food probably can provide for that sufficiently.

It is important to monitor our dietary deficiencies coz they will manifest themselves when we are older!! Glad that you are eating your fruits and vegetables.
• Singapore

So we should draw up a chart monitoring our intake? I think that would kill the joy of eating. Well, as long as we keep our diet varied and not be too picky on food, we can get the full range of vitamins and minerals and not worry about deficiencies.

I do take vitamin C and another multi-vitamin pill but not on a regular basis. Sometimes, I forget to take it. There are also times when I just don't feel like it as I am having a hard time swallowing pills. I know I need these pills because I feel more energetic when I take them. Maybe, I don't eat properly. :[ My husband, on the other hand, takes his regularly. :) I also give my children vitamin C twice a day (morning and evening) to strenghten their immune system. Fruits and vegetables are good but sometimes, kids just don't eat enough of these. More and more viruses are getting discovered lately. Then the older viruses are mutating into stronger strains. I feel safer if I give them vitamin C for they get exposed to different kinds of people in school, parks, church, malls, etc. One thing I noticed with my kids ever since I started this practice is that they rarely catch colds and cough. With this in mind, I don't really mind setting aside money for vitamins.

hi ench815, thanks for your comments. Oh yes, if the kids are not consuming enough of a balanced diet, i think nice tasting pills for the kids are alternatives. This however should not distract them from consuming the real food like fish where they can obtain their calcium and omega.

That's right, carpediem. Very, very true. But my kids love fish especially fish steak and fish fillet. But vegetables is something else when kids are involved. I'm sure you know what I mean. =) Although they eat certain veggies, they tend to be picky. I guess, even some adults do to. =D

Every day I take a vegan multi vitamin pill, 4 iron pills, an omega pill and a vitamin B12 pill. I have a vegan diet and have to make sure that I get enough iron and vitamin B12. I buy my vitamins from an Internet site called Green Valley Trading and Vegan Health and Beauty. I get my iron called Veg Life from a company in the USA. Last time I ordered the iron I bought in bulk and then faced a huge customs and excise charge.

Every day I take one vegan multi vitamin tablet, one Vitamin B12 pill, one omega-3 vegan soft gel and four iron tablets. Due to having a vegan diet I have to be careful that I get enough of the vitamins from the food I eat. Vegan people on their diet alone can get short of Vitamin B12 and iron. I think I was anemic after I lost two and a half liters of blood after my daughters birth.

I know of a vegan friend who actually told me that she was more healthy once she became a vegan as she does not feel sick readily. Perhaps she is still relatively young. But kudos to know your own needs and taking the appropriate action. Thanks maximax for your comments.

I am not a big fruit eater so I know for a fact that I am missing a few vitamins that is naturally derived from fruit. A few years ago, I started eating vegetables, so I guess I am OK in that department. For the other nutrients that I am lacking I do rely on capsules/vitamins. I keep forgetting them though. For the past couple of weeks I have been deligent, and have made it a point to take one before going to sleep.

hi bounce, yes, i too forget every now and then. But I do try to remind myself that for the vitamins to reap benefits, one must be consistent at least over a period of time in consuming them.

No, but I probably should. Even with this diet that I'm on, they even have a vitamin on it as a healthy check. I don't know what it is, I can think of taking my blood pressure medicine, but I can't seem to think of my vitamin.

My personal doctrine is - anything in excess is bad. Even for vitamins which will flush itself out if taken in excess. Perhaps having some needful vitamins supplements next to your blood pressure medicine may trigger a reminder. Some of these supplements have antioxidants element which may be good for health.

I take my vitamins everyday. I'm actually taking a vitamin that my friend is selling on line. It is a 'multi mineral liquid vitamin' called POWER OF WELLNESS from a company on line call TREVO. I love how just taking on once of it every day has helped me stop having trouble with my back, no more restless leg syndrome and I barely get migraines any more. I also take CORAL CALCIUM WITH VITAMIN D to help make my bones stronger due to Osteoarthritis. I even take a vitamin C pill. If I'm one that believes in everything having to be All Natural. My health is very important to me. ~Here's to our health~

Hi megabiz - interesting feedback you have. Not sure what a restless leg syndrome is though. And speak of migraines, it seems quite difficult to get rid of at will. Yes, we must invest a little in our own health.

Yes, I do. Health is very important and I cannot afford to be absent at work. That's why I take vitamin C everyday to keep me protected. I also eat fruits and vegetables everyday to help me from stress. It is better if you have vitamins together with fruits and vegetables to keep your good health and away from sickness.

hi angelmoon, folks are getting increasingly aware of vitamins supplements. It is just taking the right type for one's lifestyle and bodily needs. I try taking fruits every other day but sometime it is just not enough or not accessible sometimes. However for vitamins, it is a oonstant and very portable.

I really don't take vitamins. Would it be that bad for me?
• Singapore
27 Jul 10
It really depends on your current health status and if you take a balanced diet. With age, there will definitely be a need to have some supplements. Consider also injury or surgery of some nature e.g. bones, you may need a health booster like calcium fortification to help.

Yes i take my mens health vitamins daily in the am with my morning breakfast. Seems when I miss a day I don't have the same energy that I do when I take them. I tend to stick to GNC or the Vitamin shoppe and use there brand mens vitamins. When I was working out on a daily basis I liked to use there version Mens Health Sport.

Yes, I have seen some of my male colleagues who used to be skinny turned into beefy muscular guys. I heard that they were consuming some vitamins but I don't have the specifics as to what vitamins they were consuming for their body-beautiful regime. Or it is due to pumping iron at the gym also.

i remember i used not to take vitamin supplements and relied on my own food intake. I was quite drained as I grew older relying on my own body. Subsequently, i note that some of my friends took care of their health by taking vitamins supplements when we were travelling together in Australia and I took an interest in doing the same for myself. Now I don't cough or catch a cold so easily.

I take food supplement like "Power Bee and Healthy Heart" of Dr.Smith. Power Bee boost my immune system, I need this so I could replenish my loosing immune system due to 12 hours day work. Healthy Heart balances my dietary system. It's good for the heart and it somehow gives me enough rest. ;)

hi chickencurry, I realised that I was working very hard one part of my life that I neglected my health. I had regular coughs and feel drained/tired regularly without enough rest. I felt that consuming needful vitamins regularly provided that healthy boost that I was lacking even now that I am older.

I take vitamins every day. Vitamins are vital to our health. And I'm pregnant too, so they become more important for the development of my baby. I take Iron, acid folic, vitamin C, B and protein. Thanks God, I'm always in good health now.

hi antilove, thank you for your feedback. I note your conscious effort to take vitamins every day - something I am doing also. I am sure your baby will reap the benefits of some of these vitamins intake. I think different times of our life, we need different types of vitamins as a booster to our health.
