or how important is religion in our life?Religion is a choice and each individual has the right to choose as they see fit.I personally believe Religion or lack of one does not make a person good. The individual is the one who defines their moral philosophy, and only they can decide whether or not to live that philosophy.Religion can teach them some guidelines, but it is up to the individual to incorporate them.Religions make some people better human beings. But there are no guarantees. Some people use religion as a trigger to do some truly ungodly things. In today's age of science and modern marvels there are many people who ask,......."Why do we still need religion?" ..Science has shown a clear path towards answering all kinds of questions that once were the domain of magic and religion.... what do you think?

Hi Crazy_Poster!
Religion alone does not make one a good human. It's the power of thinking, to be able to think of something like a common sense and to find sense in the religion one professes which ultimately translate into action that separates a good human from the other.

Not really. I was just mentioning in some other discussion, first rule be just, second dont hurt others, third know how to stand up for yourself instead of letting others trample all over you, fourth rule help others, if you can. If you can follow all these four, you reach heaven without hooking on to any of the religions. But religion does lay a foundation, its like going to primary school. Another advantage is, when going gets tough, we can think of some god coming to our rescue, and that hope can help us survive. Other than that, I dont see religion serving any purpose.

The most important thing is how we can use our brain to think as God urges, not only accept it. Logic is a must!

Because we live in this world that we have to believe in something that worth living and one of them is believing on what faith you have for your life that we have one God it is important for teaching especially in the faith of the child that God is with us.

Remember the dark ages? Some say the corrupted high ranks in Catholic administrative in Europe contribute to the era apart from the effect after the raid of Genghis Khan. For me it's best to accept religious teaching as moral guide and not to be taken too fanatic about the difference.
Also, a good human being judge by he act and not on what he said.

In the same way that religion is not the way to save your soul, religion is not also the way for one to become a good person. It is nonetheless undeniable that there are good religions which become instrumental for a person to know God and through it, the person was able to change his life for the better. This is because when he learned about God and His Word, he realized he has to do good works for the glory of God. But it is not the religion that directly changes a persons life. It is the work of the Holy Spirit. This is the reason why we have to mold our children into the love and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and they must be exposed to the Holy Scriptures at young age.
As written in 2 Timothy verses 14-16 of the Holy Bible:
[i]"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

This also applies to adults and in fact to all men.

hello,
science vs religion has always been a very controversial topic. i would like to note that neither ever claim to be the right path. the bible is a chronicle of what happened in the time when such a great man existed. science provides theories, discoveries, and logical answers to most of our questions. but just because something is logical doesn't mean that it is absolute. ^_^
i would say that religion is there to guide us, but forcing what you believe onto anybody is not right. as they say, we are all given free will, so you should be able to consider what religion tells you, and decide on how you could use these teachings to be good to other people and to yourself. salvation is not what's at stake here, but living a happy and contented life. :)
happy mylotting

Religions are only necessary for people who want an easy explanation to the things they don't understand, or who want to be told what to do and what to think. For the real difficult thing, look for answers instead of listening to all blindly, I think that helps to build a person better.
As you well said, religion is a choice, and we all have the right to choose

It is not necessary that religion makes one good, but on a bad man it does have an subduing effect. A man who is healthy does not need a doctor to cure him but a person who is sick does need a doctor. Same is with religion. It is not for those who are spiritually healthy, but it for those who are spiritually sick.

no, it is not important to belong to a religion to be a good human being. There are a lot of people who are even so religious and goes to church everyday but still do evil deeds. religion can not change people only GOd. if they are just religious but has not really loved God then they will remain the same, doing their evil deeds.

You know, I have been asking myself that a lot lately. I come from a family where some people are very religious and where people think god is the reason behind everything.Like, if something good or bad happens he is in control and there must be a reason for it.I don't agree completely because i think that when you work hard for something that YOU made it happen same thing when things go south.
I remenber my aunt mentioned in a conversation about religion that to Go it didn't matter how good you are if you don't go to church have a religion etc. And it made me think what about many people out there that set out to help others but don't necessarily follow a religion or even believe in God.Are they going to hell too...

I believe that regardless the religion anyone can be a good person, you don't need to belong to some religion, the good in you is characterized by the choices you face everyday, you have to search within you, those choices are what determine the type of person you are.

i am not what you call a religon person, i dont go to church much at all. but i see myself as a good person still, i am always there for people to help them out, i know how God wants me to treat people. i dont never judge others for what they belive in or who they are.
i find more people who claims to be religion are more meaner and nastier towards other then people who is like me arent. these people are the reason why i am not, i am more spritial i belive in God and Jesus..

Religion has absolutely no effect on whether or not someone is a good human being. What determines whether you are a good human being or not is how you treat and interact with other human beings and other creatures in this world...how you deal with other situations that you are presented with. There are some religious organizations which are absolutely cruel and vile towards other human beings and religion has been the cause of many wars throughout history. Religion does not always equal good.

Religion has no importance at all in my life, and I think I can be considered as a good human being. At least, not bad.
I personally think: Religion itself has no power and no meaning. It's human beings' own principle engraved deeply in their heart orients our life. Believing a religion is only a reason to convince oneself of his/her principle is well-founded.
