Like the US Dollar ($)& the Japanese Yen the Indian Rupee too will soon have a unique sign that will be recognized world wide.
The Government of India has shortlisted five designs following an all India contest and one of these will be chosen as the official symbol.
The babus will make the final decision through online poll or something similar.

well i didnt know that indian ruppe has no unique sign associated with it. when im thinking about indian ruppe i always think of a R with the two parallel links like in the us dollar but horizontally not like in the us dollar that is vertically.

I heard about that and it has been a big news. I think it is good that finally the symbol is decided. I saw the symbol and it looks good. I heard that it is a combination of Hindi 'R' and English 'R'. That is fine. I feel that the symbol is kind of similar to the Euro symbol. Anyway, it is a good decision to come up with the symbol from Indian government.
