Well personally for me while growing up my mother at times will usually shout after me and my bother and sister but as we got older she thinks that she doesn't have to aggravate her self to let her know that she is serious about a situation or just plane ANGRY! she would usually say to us "i don't have to talk to let you know that you must stop doing that" and in the spilt of a second we see the eye that says it all. LOL

My olds are very good at that especially my father. He is the type who doesn't talk much but when he does it is surely something that well scare the hell out of you.LOL But, as much as possible he is trying his best to control himself. There was one instance wherein my brother and I had a bout, he was there and saw us. He did not say anything but the looks he gave us was frightening enough to make us stop fighting and sat in a corner. It was a killer look!:-) I can't use this eye thing to my kids because I don't have that strict feature nor the angry look. Maybe when they are older to understand that I don't have to utter words to let them know that I meant what I meant.

Hi Terrencehenry! Perhaps the eye would have done equally well or better without even saying anything. Anyway isn't that what disciplining should be, with dignity. It doesn't have to be accompanied with shouts, screamings and canings as most of us were used to. I think when we begin to take charge of how we discipline our kids they'll grow to be more appreciative of the kinds of treatment they received and hence pass them on.

Your mom sure does have her way. Like all mothers I'm sure she has your welfare and your wellbeing close to her heart.

So true, My mother and my father is not hard to read, I mean whenever they are not feeling good, Or they are angry, or if they are trying to hide their feelings sometimes their eyes really says it all. But of course not only parents even us do that too and our children.. The eyes are definitely the windows of our souls.

I have three little boys and sometimes they could get out of hand, and they'd run around, being their bratty little selves. I usually just tell them to stop and they'd stop and if they don't I could go shouting at them to stop coz it's making my head hurt. That usually doesn't work with them, so I'll give them the "eye". lol. Works everytime. They'd stop with whatever they're doing and fidget and whisper to each other, "Halaka, galit na talaga si mama."("Ooooh, mama's really mad now.") the "eye" never fails. hahaha

Hi again, non verbal communication is a parent's way of not exploding. As a parent, i have had to use that many times and like you, my child always new i was serious. My mom had one that always worked. When we got out of hand, she would suddenly start looking around her and we know that she was looking for something to pick up. And we listen. You'll see when you become a parent.

Hi, Terrencehenry6. All it takes is the eye!! I hope to use this on my kids very soon. Right now, they are hard headed as the day comes. I could use this strategy on them anytime now.
