How can I keep my dogs from barking when we come home?

Every single time we leave the house and come back, whether it's 5 hours or 5 minutes that we are gone...the dogs will bark sooooo much as soon as they hear the car drive up, and will continue to bark until we open the door. It's really annoying and it wakes up my daughter if she is asleep. If she isn't asleep it scares the you know what out of her and she cries. How can I train them to not bark when we come home?
One is a mini doxie (5 years old), one is a chihuahua doxie mix (9 years old).

I have the same question. I am all for alerting us when they hear something however when they know its you "shut up" dogs already. We have one who is the worst he bark I mean barks until we get him outta cage and take outside. He must go straight outside otherwise he still barks. But he is the best at house training. I guess you take the good with the bad. and love them anyway. A chihuahua doxie mix I would love to see photo of.

A shotgun works quite well! Rather permanent though. Hey folks, this is what dogs do! You can't stop them and you shouldn't try to either. If you don't like the noise then you shouldn't have dogs. If you ever get a burglar visiting, you'll praise your dogs wont you? Although a couple of rats like yours only have noise going for them. Get a real dog at least.
