I am a diabetic, type 1. I have fainted before because of low blood sugar. It's not fun. My suggestion for you and your mother is to research about diabetes and also your mother should start really listening to your body because it will tell you when there is something wrong. When my sugar level is low, I get extremely emotional and weak. When I have high blood sugar, I am jittery and extremely thirsty.
My aunt has type 2 diabetes and experiences other symptoms. When her blood sugar gets low, she starts to hum to herself. Different people experience different symptoms so your mother should start listening to her body so she can treat high/low blood sugar before it goes too far.

I don't have diabetes but I have two Aunts that have it and I also worked in Health Care for a few years. Here are somethings that your mother can do to help manage her diabetes. Also when she faints that has a lot to do with her blood-sugar level. If her blood sugar is too low she can take a peppermint candy. She should always have some of those handy. If her blood sugar is too high she needs to go to the Emergency room right away.
She needs a commitment to managing her diabetes.Members of her diabetes care team — doctor, diabetes nurse educator and dietitian, for example — will help you learn the basics of diabetes care and offer support and encouragement along the way. But it's up to her to manage her condition. After all, no one has a greater stake her your health than her.
Learn all you can about diabetes. Make healthy eating and physical activity part of your daily routine. Maintain a healthy weight. Monitor your blood sugar level, and follow your doctor's instructions for keeping your blood sugar level within your target range. Don't be afraid to ask your diabetes treatment team for help when you need it.
I wish your mother the best of health :)
