My friend computer has lots of virus. Whenever i get USB or harddrive from my friends i get tons of virus. Its a big headache sometimes. I use AVG which is updated daily and it is really good. It catches almost all the virus. It is rally fast too. It doesnt load my CPU a lot. I use 9.0 version which is free and it is really good. I use it once in a week to kill viruses in my system. Share ur thoughts on the same.

Well... I use Microsoft Security Essentials it does the job done and well too :D.It's free and it doesn't give false positives either. If you are an advanced user you might try Comodo Internet Security it's good too and has an x64 native version for x64 users.I'm waiting for version 5 than I'll jump back to play with some more Comodo.I miss Comodo and I like the new features that are coming in v5.Oh yea... Comodo Internet Security is free, too. What I like about it is that it has a very good firewall and about false positives, if it gives, though usually not, you can chose ignore or false alert(not a virus) and no more bothering.

Hi, is Microsoft Security Essentials by Mircosoft? (I know it sounds stupid.) You see, microsoft always has security issues, so I won't use a virus scanner by microsoft.

If your laptop is too much buggered by viruses just reinstall windows, it's for your own good. You never know what viruses can do to your computer, one day your computer gets very slow the other day all your personal data is right out on the street, you never know.

On my home pc I have AVG as I also prefer it. It is free and is quite effective and has updates delivered quite often. I agree with you that it is very effective. On my office laptop we have Trend Micro anti-virus. Of course, this is a paid anti virus so that much more effective!!
Cheers!

Being a paid anti-virus does not mean that Trend Micro is more effective.
My spouse is a teacher. She gets to use a laptop provided by the Malaysian government. The default software were all paid for by the government. Trend Micro is one of them.
At home the laptop is sometimes used by our children for their research, and at the same time they go to certain websites.
The result? Trend Micro failed to detect a fake anti-virus. I had to do a manual deletin of the offending pieces of codes.

I used AVG too, I find it a pretty good program to use as it doesn't overload my PC and scanning is very effective. Do remember to update it regularly though.

My husband and I use Rising antivirus. It works really well for our system. When we used AVG his computer kept getting trojan horses so we switched because this had good reviews on download.com and it is free as well.

Follow the link below for the results of a Proactive Security Challenge. See which is sat the top, and where AVG failed.

No challenge is complete but at least the results give a fair idea of the perforamnce of software submitted to the web site.

I use AVG free which seems to work great. I've only encountered a virus once ifn the past few years and AVG removed it. I have AVG set to scan my hard drive every day at noon. If your friends computers have viruses, why don't you get them to use AVG or some other software? I would stop borrowing from them unless they start cleaning their drives and/or stop visiting questionable sites.

Hi friends finally I am back to MyLot after a long gap.
Virus Scanner, I suggest AVG or Norton if your computer has high amount of resources.
Now a days many anti virus scanners like McAfee are doing a good job.

I use an Apple Imac computer, and have never had a virus to date. So I have no virus scanning software.
The other aspect is that I don't download any movies, music, or software illegally. That is typically how people get viruses, by downloading from shifty pirate cites.

I use AVG too. I migrated to this Anti virus from Norton and Quick Heal... They were posing a hell lot of issues with Win XP and used most of the CPU. Though I am not that satisfied with the performance of AVG but still happy that it has kept me away from normal PC hazards for over a year now.
Cheers.

Guys I read many comments for AVG, Avira, Avast, Nortan, Mcaffe..
I dont know why do you guys use such antivirus apps..
They suck!!!
Use Kaspersky and ESET Nod 32.
They are the best..

Hi,
AVG is very good. But at times it does not detect some viruses. That may give a problem in the long run. Just check it out.

I've used the Pro version of AVG, Avira, and Avast. But then I've changed to Kaspersky 2010 because it has higher detection rate than AVG, Avira and Avast but it uses a lot of RAM when scanning. Recently I've changed to Bit Defender Total Secutiry 2010 which also weighs down my computer but with more application than Kaspersky and have a high detection as Kaspersky. I think I'll change to Kaspersky PURE next. For free anti virus, i think AVG is the right choice and there's also Avira. But I've heard about free anti virus that uses cloud computing technology recently e.g Panda Cloud antivirus and immunet pro but haven't tested it yet.

It would be better if you go pro. Pro means real time scanning unlike the free version which need manual scanning. And you might also wanna install malwarebytes. It has a free version, but Pro is the recommended (as any). I'm using those.
