i have this problem with my little Cole, he's a field spaniel. we wanted him to be a house dog but just won't work out. he keeps on jumping from couch to couch, from the door to the stairs which is i think 3-4 feet away, 5-6 flights of stairs to the floor then to the couch, pretty amazing but scary at the same time. he won't stay put, he wakes us up by jumping on the bed and sometimes lands on my err... sensitive part. but apart from that, he's a good dog and very sweet so getting rid of him is out of the question. my gf will kill me just by thinking about it. I've read somewhere that spaniels are not the typical house dogs but we live in a place where letting him out is not a dog idea, i mean good idea. i would really appreciate it if all you dog persons out there can give me some suggestions, advise on how to lessen this... thanks!

Hi jamuls, and welcome to mylot! I had the same problem with my dog Binne. I used to own another Airedale before, but she was such a calm dog! The Airedale I own now, Binne, is tottaly different from the other. She is such a handfull! When she wasn't allowed to leave the house because we had to wait to finish her vaccines, she behave the same your dog does. She used to jump all over the house - people included. From the first day we got out, I started to take her to long walks, to burn her energy. We wake up early and take a 90 minutes morning walk. Sometimes we run, sometimes we play, and sometimes we just walk. After that she has her breakfast, and then she is so tired, that she goes to sleep. I leave home and go to work and in the meantime she is tired enough to sleep the whole day. In the evening we take another 2 hours walk (walk, run, play) and when we come home, she is again tired. She eats and then goes to sleep. So the key is to get Cole tired, to burn his energy outside the house. This way, he will be more calm inside the house.

Be sure you will! In the past two months I've lost 7 kilos. It's more than I wanted, as 7 kilos means 12% from my weight. You will see the changes in Cole's behaviour from the very first day. Don't forget that 'a tired dog is a happy dog'.

The same thing happens to my me with my dog, is hyperactive, needs to come out, because very nervous this one and it wants to play all the time. Now that I returned to my house, I realized the problem that my parents were having with the dog. So the empece to extracting to walking, teaches him to do his needs out, when I go out to run I take her with me, but always though it is once a day I take her to the park in order that it plays and burns energies. You have to look the magician of dogs in the animal channel at planet.

thanks for the reply. playing with them is best way to get rid of their hyper activeness but i wish i could match their stamina with mine.
