Hello Do you think the pre-season games are waste of time and money... they never seem to be good games and they always put in the 3rd string to see what they can do... I thought the big players with big salareies should play and be more in condition and get more practices under them... you feelings would be completely appreciated. Thanks and have a great day! Which sport are you talking about? All of them? I'm answering from my e-mail, so I can't see what category you put this discussion in. I think for the most part, preseason games are a waste. I believe they have their purpose, but there shouldn't be so many of them. How many games does it take to see what kind of players one has? Most of the decisions on who will be first string or who will play where has already been decided before the season began.

Now after I submitted my response, I see it says football. I wish we could see that when we get the notification in our e-mails.

Hello AmbiePam, Yes, I know it is hard to read the questions at in e-mail boxes when they come in. Thank you for the reply. I agree with your comments 100 percent...about how many games it take to see if a player is worth it mustard... and the coaches know even before whether they will make the team or not. If he is good coach and knows what he is doing (lol) Thanks and have a great day! Sincerely Unique16

I am not sure which teams actually put their 3rd string teams during the pre-season games. If they are doing so, then you are right they are waste of time and money. But most teams that I follow usually will put out their top players for at least a run of 45 minutes. The idea is to start getting them towards match fitness. Cheers! Ram

Hello ram-cv Yes, the put the first string in for 45 minutes but why when the rest of game is second or third string. The coaches know who will make the team etc... by that time. It just another way to extend the season and get more money out of us. Thanks for the reply. Have a great day! Sincerely Unique16

Actually no the coaches usually do not finalize the entire squad by then. For e.g. in the EPL out of a squad which can have around 25 people, the coaches are usually clear on around 15-18 people. There remainder 7-10 people who will make the squad will be determined by these pre-season matches. Also for players coming back from injuries or long layoffs this gives them a good workout before the season begins. Cheers! Ram

ya i do, if u've been to a regular season game then u would notice the difference.... 1, because uslaly teams will start 2nd or 3rd string players and 2 it means nothing to them it justa chance to get warmed up for the season

I don't think it is a waste of tome or money. These teams have a lot of talent to evaluate. I think tahey could possibly slim it down to maybe two preseason games. The coaches already know through the combines and mini camps how their new talent stacks up with the rest of the team so I think two games would be plenty but yeah preseason is an important part of preperation for that year.
