There are many types of small, fluffy dogs. Just make sure you're fully prepared to take care of a dog. I'm dog sitting for a woman now who is never home and it just isn't fair to her dogs. They're attention starved.
Anyway, a pound is the first place I'd go. I've met some of the sweetest dogs volunteering at a shelter. Small dogs aren't as common in pounds, but contact your local one and see. You never know.
If you want a "pure bred" dog, there are many options. Long-haired chihuahuas, papillions, Maltese, Shih Tzus, et c.

I want to get a dog from a shelter, too. But i live with my boyfriend. He never had a dog and i couldn't explain to him what is to have a homeless dog. My last dog was from the street. Great dog! Cute! It's great to save the poor creature. His love is huge! My boyfriend want something big and pure bred! I will never give money for a dog! I don't care I just want cute dog. So the compromise is small dog but not from the street! I still hope that i can make him get shelter dog!

If I could have the opportunity to have a dog in my house (cause I can't have that joy :( my apartment is brand new and furniture is brand new, so I can't have a dog.. I am worried that it will mess up all apartment) I would buy a Bulldog, I'm like them so much. They are a little bit messy, but it worth it. Those dogs are so cute. I will recommend you a spaniel. They are little and they don't need so much care like the big dogs. Also they're very cute as well :)

Hi wazaaa. You'd be surprised to find out that big dogs don't need more care than small dogs, the only thing that differs is the amount of food and the time you spend for exercise the dog. (A big dog needs a lot more exercise than a small dog.)

i would suggest a teacup yorkshire terrier they stay tiny, are friendly if brought up and trained correctly, and are very playful you can also have their hair long or short :)

First I'd advice you to visit a dog shelter, to see if any of those poor dogs suits you. It would be a good thing to adopt one of those unhappy creatures.
If you are looking for a pure breed small, fluffy dog you could choose between a few breeds like Toy Poodle, Bichons, Shih Tzu, Pomerian, Affenpinscher or even a small terrier like a Scottish Terrier or a West Highland White Terrier.
Yet, there are a lot of other things you have to consider beside the dog's look.
Before buying a dog, please gather as much information as you can about the breed you've choosen. It is sad how some people abandon their dog after some time because the dog doesn't suit them.
