I Can't Hide It Anymore.............It's Time For Me To Come Out Of The Closet

My real world friends don't know I am.........but I don't think they would look at me any different if they did know...... Many of my online friends half suspect I am..........but they stand by me...... My girlfriend's pretty sure I am..........she just doesn't talk about it....... Yes...........I admit it........I'M A WRITER! Well, not a professional writer or anything..........oh I do have some ideas of grandeur stuck in my head......pieces of novels, parts of screenplays......but for now, they'll remain tucked away in my cranium.......you have to crawl before you can fly......or something like that..... Anyways, I think I'm a fairly decent writer, and I'm ready to get out there and start writing. I've been looking into some sites that pay you to write, but most of them want samplings of your writing. So I have to find places that don't ask for samplings of my writings so I can write, so I can have samplings of my writings to submit to the sites that DO want samplings of my writings. I've found a couple of sites that I've signed up for. One gives you the topics they want you to write about, and you just do the research and write an original article.....I'm waiting for them to approve my first article. The other one pays pretty decently if someone buys your articles, but at this one you're all on your own......you have to come up with your own idea for an article that will hopefully be of interest to someone who wants to put your it on their website. I haven't submitted my first article to this one yet, but hopefully my brain gears will loosen up and I'll start to come up with some ideas........SOON! Anyways, what I'd like to ask of you, my fellow writers, is if you can steer me in the direction of some honest trustworthy pay to write sites that a beginning writer can cut their teeth on. I like the ones that give you the topics to write on, but that's not a necessity.....I know I can't rely on that forever.......it's just easier on my brain pan. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated...........writing advice that is........not advice like go jump in a lake or anything. Thank you

I have always loved the way you write, whether here at mylot or just your posts at facebook. You are smart, funny and talented and if you just sit yer butt down and do it, I predict great success for you! I've also just come out of the closet... If you haven't signed up for Associated Content yet, please use my referral link to do so! It's on my facebook page in the thread where I discuss my own "coming out" as a writer.

Try CONSTANT CONTENT. Do task for public request but since you are a new member you can't directly submit your article to the buyer. Instead, it'll be posted as a consignment by he site. You'll get paid once a buyer purchase it. However, it is a good start up for you to have an idea on what to write. Once approved you can write as many articles as you want for the buyers and topics of your interest. Goodluck! :-)

One of the very first things I would do is to stop with the standard canned reply comments and start writing individual comments yourself. I'm not trying to be overly critical of how you function here on myLot, but canned comments won't get you any practice in writing. It truly is good practice and experience to think of meaningful, pertinent, and individual comments as replies. I think you may be pleasantly surprised if you put the effort into thinking up an appropriately tailored response comment for each and every person that leaves you a comment. Best of luck to you!

I second Associated Content. Once you get started, they have a list of article titles they would like to have written. You can write about anything else that you want to. If they don't approve of an article, you can publish it to be paid for page views, which can be pretty good, since you get paid for it every month over and over again. If you need samples, start a blog and write good stuff on it - like you'd write to sell. Think of your interests, choose one and write about it on your blog. Factoidz is another one. It's not as stable as AC, but if you get with it, it pays pretty well. There are question and answer forums for each topic and you can choose one the questions to write an article for, or write something entirely of your own. Good luck!

JUMP IN!!! With both feet. Just do it. Just write. Not sure what sites you are on but you should try wordgigs, textbroker, and for residual/writing samples, Helium. Wait on signing up for demand studios till you get some experience.

Hey sconi! I think you will do just wonderfully even without some sort of advice on what to write! Look at all the stuff you come up with here. All though you would have to tone stuff down and keep it clean and make sense and stuff like that. I also used to write and be sort of good at it, but when it came to trying those writing sites I froze! I just don't know what happened to me! I wrote 2 articles for Review Stream and one was accepted and the other wasn't! That was it for me! I gave up, all too easily, I must admit! You have to be tougher to work in this big Internet World! I know that YOU can do it Sconi! As for me, I'm going to find that lake now.....

Hello sconibear. I know I'm coming into this discussion a little late but I would recommend helium.com to get your writing out there. Also, there is ezinearticles.com. You can make money on Helium but ezinearticles site doesn't pay, it just gives you a forum to post articles. You probably already know about both of these by now and are having some success but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents anyway.

Well, I am sure that in 16 hours that you have had many responses already about writing sites. I have heard of a few but not sure if they are your cup of tea or not or if your already a memember or not. Well, eHow,associated content,Gather, Helium are all sites that pay you. I am not sure on how much..but I have heard people have made money on these sites. Well, I wish you luck on your adventure and may the your brain always be filled with many stories to write..

I wish I had that encouragement. I tend to procrastinate whenever I try to write articles, poems, journals, or other materials. I think it is just a gift of having that urge in writing and it really pays off.

Well I am sure I can imagine what the others have suggested, so I hope mine will be more "out there" and make ya think, or atleast surprise ya. What about forum posting? You could whet your appetite for writing their, and though you have to give them "Samples" you could always use mylot, and even THIS discussion. Well Good Luck.

Sconibear- I'm friends with a few professional writers, and most of them began with simple magazine submissions. You'll want to check with each magazine you wish to submit an article to and prints out or at least bookmark their submission guidelines. Each magazine has their own set of rules for submission be it type font, electronic versus snail mail submission, word, character or sentence amount and so forth. Two of our author friends began their publishing through their own companies. They created their own publishing company, wrote for their online section, and then gained what was needed to have larger publishing houses pick up their work. If you are looking at publishing a book of any type make sure to read the publisher’ submission guidelines before you begin. This will save you great time where editing is concerned. For example, some require that each chapter be saved individually for editing ease, some require permissions, and so forth. It depends upon what you are writing and the publisher you are submitting your work to. Another way to publish your work is to go through Lulu. We have friends who feel both ways, but we feel it is a fairly decent house to start with. One of the text books used for Norwegian at Augsburg College in Minneapolis is published through Lulu, so the ability to make a decent sales is there. You may also want to check out various websites that are hiring online writers from advice, to poets, to editorialists. The best way to check is to simply go to where you enjoy reading said articles. I’m not big on “paid per post” sites as a way of getting noticed by an editor or publishing house. Currently all of my work is published on my own site and copyrighted as such, much how a few of our friends started. My husband and I are both currently drafting books, so that work is kept offline to avoid any chance of pre-mature submissions. My advice to you as an author is to make sure you have your copyright clearly stated in any article you write, and keep files of everything you write. This protects your intellectual work. I wish you all the best in your new journey! Namaste-Anora

I became a member here just a few weeks ago, and reading your discussions made me say, "tsk! tsk! tsk! this sconibear is something!" You must be good with cliff hangers too! lol! Since you have the talent and potential to become a very good writer who can earn thousands of dollars a month, what are you still doing hanging around here? Go! crawl the net, check the neighborhood, call publishers, ring TV & radio stations. If only I got your talent.... Man, I'll be rich by now!
