Yesterday, someone broke in the apartment I share with a friend and took her laptop. We all assumed it happenned during the day because we where ar work during those times. I feel scared and annoyed. We stay on the 3rd floor of the building but no one managed to see who did it. One of the caretakers was even blaming us for not making sure that all windows are locked.Fact 1. All our windows and doors are locked once we step out of the house. Fact 2. These owners have duplicate keys of our units. FAct 3. These owners stays inside the compound everday 24/7. So what do you think guys, do we really have to share the blame or there is some inside job going on here?

How did the robbers get in? Was a window forced? ON the third floor it's highly unlikely but anything is possible. Was the door broken or lock picked? If not, I suspect the owners, caretakers or one of their friends. I'd change the lock and not tell anyone.

I am wondering the same thing that TheCatLady is wondering too. How can someone just get all of the way up into someones apartment on the third floor! They had to have been might desperate to climb that high with a ladder. And, do these apartments have elevators?

So someone took a rope from the roof, hung on and forced a window. Or they had a very very long ladder and did it from the ground and no one saw them walking around with a 30 foot ladder. Yup very believable. The caretakers or their friends did it, but I'm sure they already sold the lap top and you can't prove anything.

We both a new deadbolt and changed the one installed without the owner or the care takers knowledge. They calim a window was forced but I do not believe them. Besides, if a robber came from the third floor, they would have most likely saw him coming down from the 2nd floor to the ground and out the gate. We are really suspecting that it was an inside job.

Basing on what you have mentioned, it is interesting in some sort that only the laptop was stolen. I am very much sure that there are still other gadgets or equipment in your apartment that is equally important than the other yet it's not missing. That leaves into conclusion that there something in this circumstances that prompts me to ask why. Or could this be an inside job or someone knew something on what's happening.

We have an LCD televison at home , cellular phones, watches, PSP's and other gadgets but all he took was the laptop. Why? I am also intruged about that. And what do we get, a report about the incident. No police, no nothing, just a report. I could have done much better. So I guess we would be moving out of that place soon.

Hi. JOIEMARVIC. If the owners are the only ones that have full access to your apartment, then they have to know something. Or one of them does. If your window was not broken into nor by forced entry. Then I bet you that nine times out of ten, these owners was not doing their job that day. Or one of them is the guilty party! I hope that you will find out whom is responsible for taking your friend's laptop. If no windows or doors have been busted open, then it may be an insider's job. Someone from the staff is keeping something hidden. Someone has to know something!

I'm curious with the caretakers, it should be not your fault completely, i wonder why he blames both of you like that, i'm thinking about the perpetrator?? Who has another key besides the owner, do the caretaker also have??
Well we can't accuse people without an evidence, you need an evidence, i'm suggesting you to frisk people that you think suspicious

It really should not be blamed on us. You need to hear this. A night after the robbery, the owner send me a text message reminding me about the months rent. The nerve. I am not asking them to spare us from the months rent because of the incident, but he could atleast have let the robbery incident pass for a few days before demanding rent. This morning, I saw him by the stairs, he told me he suggest that I buy an alarm system for our windows incase a robber tries to force his way inside your unit again. Duh, he should be the one doing that. It's the second time someone got robbed within their premises and instead of doing precautions, he is asking me to do what he should be doing.

The intriguing thing about this is that the only object missing in the house is the laptop. We left cellular phones, ipods, external memories, an LCD television, PSP's ,watches and other valuables in the house, but the robber took the laptop particulary. I know I should feel thankful that the robber did not took everything, but it seems to be so fishy too me.
