I love listening to music especially jazz and R & B. However, I not only prefer the song based on its melody but more on the lyrics. My facebook account is filled of links to videos of the songs that touch my heart and soul. Before posting them on, I tried checking the lyrics if its good and if I can relate to it. Just as I was typing this I was just done posting 'AFTER ALL THESE YEARS' by Journey. Makes me cry...:-) You see, guys, I'm a sucker for lyrics. Is there a soul here who is like me?:-)

eurekafemme, I have no preferences and I do listen to everything on the charts, off the charts and whatever I can get hold of. You can check my collections in my profile. You can also do it with your profile too. Of late, I seem to enjoy Yanni and Raul DiBlasio which was being played in my inflight entertainment on my flight to South Africa. Since you like Journey, I think you might also like Reo Speedwagon.

younger years, I used to listen to Speedwagon not because I wanted to but my uncle loves this band. I had no idea until tonight that most of the songs I listened to was theirs. Thanks to you, Sky.:-) Right now, I am enjoying the music of Eva Cassidy Diana Krall. Really great melody, great voice and great lyrics, touching, in fact.:-) Happy listening always to you, my dear.:-)

I checked these two great artists this morning when I woke up, and guess what I LOVE THEM!. Even my baby doze off while listening to them and as I am writing this I'm listening to Yanni's UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT... Very touching... Thanks , Sky. You've given me something really precious . I'll remeber you all throughout my life because of these two great performers...I couldn't thank you enough.

eurekafemme, You are welcome. I am glad that you liked Yanni and Raul DiBlasio. Even more glad that your baby find them soothing. I've quite a lot of collections at home and on the move to accommodate my moods. I have to admit that artiste like Yanni, DiBlasio, Kitaro and Jim Brickman to be very inspirational. Since you like Jazz by Diana Krall, I am wondering if you will find vocalists like Patti Austin and Sarah Vaughan to be to your expectations and liking. Especially, Sarah Vaughan - I just find her songs simply heaven. Just another consideration for your listening pleasure......

I totally agree with you. I love to read & I love to write, so to me, the lyrics are by far the most important part of the song. Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne and so many others from my youth knew how to paint a picture with the lyrics. From more recent years, Bowling For Soup and Green Day capture my lyric-loving heart. The genre of the music doesn't much matter to me, as long as I like the words.

Wow! Thank you for that, Lorboy. :-) My husband who is 36 years old now loves Bruce Springsteen. I guess, he is the oldie type.:-) Will be checking the two you've mentioned here and see if I can relate to them, too. I prefer not so loud and soothing music. If it just for the beat, I guess I'll go for reggae and latin jazz. Thank you for being the very first to respond.:-)

NP:) Some lines get stuck in my head - Bowling For Soup - (don't even remember which song, something about breaking up) but the line is: "and the days drag on like a tailpipe" or try looking up "Ohio" by Bowling For Soup. Not really a song I relate to necessarily, but great lyrics. Jackson Browne, "The Load Out & Stay" are great lyrics. Country songs place a lot of emphasis on lyrics - Kenny Chesney "That's Why I'm Here" tells a great story. . . . uh-oh - you got me started! LOL

I do look for lyrics, but melody scores I guess. :) I somehow cant accept rap and break dance kind of stuff or screaming. :) If the vocal chords have to be strained to express something then I guess something is wrong with the tune. :)

I go with you on this one, Vandana. I just couldn't imagine myself listening to metallica. For me, the sound of their musiv is not really music but noise. Ops! Sorry to the fans of Metallica...No offense meant there.:-( Thanks, dear. Have a peaceful night.;-)

Hi eurekafemme, i admit i'm a sucker too . I guess i got it from my mother who sung songs whenever she puts me to sleep. That was well over three decades ago. But i prefer the melodies more than the lyrics. The lyrics only catches my attention if i like the melody. its just the fact that there are songs that you can't understand the words not unless there are subtitles or you can find the time to research the lyrics online. It's not that i'm a fan of Jovit but i really like listening to Queens "too much love will kill you". The melody is great and as you keep playing the song you will appreciate the lyrics as well as how the singer tries to put his emotions in the song.

Hi, Ybong.:-) I'm not a fan of Jovit , too, but I'm happy for the kid's great success. :-) What a coincidence! I was humming TOO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU while preparing breakfast for myself and my daughter. I feel sad sometimes listening to this song, but this morning i just hum it unconsciously. Yes, I do 2agree with you on this that the melody catches the attention first and then the lyrics follow. This is perhaps the reason why I love to listen to jazz. It doesn't need lyrics for you to fully appreciate its beauty and get yourself lost to its message.;-) Sigh... i'm beginning to sound like senti again... Thank you, dear for sharing your thoughts and music preference with us here.

Hey there eurekafemme. I, too am a sucker for good lyrics. But I also go for those with good lyrics AND great melody. Love something with a good bass too. Have you heard the song, Mad World by Michael Andrews? i love the lyrics. And Everything by Lifehouse, makes me tear up a bit everytime I hear it. :)
