Is $3.00 an hour good enough for you?

I have applied to an opening at oDesk and now it is already at the interview phase. The rate offered by the employer is $3.00 per hour for an online administrative assistant job. What do you think? Is that rate good enough?

Hello Joram ! Please first consider it really depends where you work (I mean what country and if in rural area or urban area, or even capital city). It also depends on what the current minimum wager is set for your country. For instance, the current minimum salary here is under 200 us dollars in my country, so 3 dollars per hour is pretty good - 120 per week - that would mean more then double the minimum per month - so for this country I wish I had that salary.

dunno, is this something you would be doing at home, online? if so, it might be, depending on the work load I imagine. I would like to make something like that if it meant I could stay home and listen to my music and take care of the home at the same time. I wish you the best and congrats!

Depends on what you have to do but take it this way 3$\h.If you work 3h\Day in one month you'll make 270$.

My target is reaching atleast $5/hr but I'm stuck now with $1.5/hr for data entry jobs. I think $3/hr is good enough for an administrative job. It's way above our hourly rate here in the Philippines so I will go for it if I have an offer like that.

dear joram, i cannot say if it is good enough. but it will depend on your lifestyle. you should find out your scope of work.. if you think that it is enough then grab. i say you make a budget for yourself first. then find out if what you earn is more than what you spend on a daily basis. know your daily expense and write it down. take the job if what you spend is less than what you earn. it should be stretchable so that you will live comfortably. cheers, ann

ever since i started to earn online, i only managed to earn up to a dollar a day. So my answer to your question would be yes. I presume that the job you're referring to is only one in several other jobs you are getting paid online. But even if that's the only one i would still consider it a good deal that's based on my own experience of course.

As far as I am concerned, I think If I have the ability to get $3 an hour, I think I will be so glad to have that kind of job now. But for me now, I think I do not have the ability to earn $3 an hour.So whether it is enough or not, I just do not have the ability. Have a nice day!

$3 for 8 hours would equal to $24. And $24 is around 1,080 pesos a day already. I think you are lucky enough to get that much but it also depends on the currency rate in your country. For an admin asst job, that is not bad at all.

I congratulate you joram, it is a very interesting sum of money, you have to bear in mind the type of work that you must develop, to see if you can do it in an hour, thereabouts it exceeds you time, depends on the level of income that your you claim and if you have some another source of income. But if you go away to dedicating to this work, 8horas daily it would be 24 $ per day, 720 $ a month, and in my case it would have to multiply it by almost 4 that there is what is equivalent the dollar. You might spend major information to me to see if I can take part in this site.

Hmmmm I signed up for odesk too, but never really got down to producing any material for them/working clients, simply because of this rather odious 'interview process' which makes the whole thing seem incredibly formal, whereas I am basically searching for something a little more casual. Regarding the money, I guess it really depends on your own personal opinion - I would rather work for a little more than that, than if the work is easy, then why not? And money, at the end of the day, is of course money.

Congratulations! Online administrative assistant job? Sounds good! If you have to work very rarely on this then $3.00 is quite good. But if you're expected to work online continuosly for hours then I don't think that the payment is sufficient.

It depends....You have to consider the task or nature of the job, from what country you are and the length of time you are required to work. You have to consider those factors for you to weigh how much is worthy salary per hour. If the task is not that pressuring and you will accomplish it without any deadline, then perhaps lower rate would be fine. But if the job requires you to work is a specific time, then you need to have a higher rate. However, since it is your first job, you can make a negotiation to have a lower rate wit a condition that if your employer is satisfied with your work, then request for a higher rate. Congrats and Good Luck!

I have not yet landed in any odesk job so if I would land in a $3/hour job on the site, I would go for it. That's $24 in 8 hours. It's doucle the amount of my day job so I would really consider doing it.

I think the rate is okay considering that it's a work@home job...you just have to be careful...clarify what you will really have to do and figure it out by yourself if you can really do it. For us, working at home, that rate is quite big. Btw, what was the opening? I've learned that you're a blogger...

I think $3 per hour is consider reasonable if you do not have a permanent job. 1 hour is very fast to past so in one day if you work for 8 hours then it is total of $24 and this is consider quite enough for daily use..

Congratulations, I salute you! Because for me it's so hard to get a chance to hire in ODesk unless you are really good.Keep up the good work joram :)

I think that's fair, since a lot of providers there are charging $1 or less per hour, especially in data entry jobs. I have a friend, though who is making $10 per hour, doing web designs and scripting jobs. This month he said he made around $800- $900 doing part time.
