Hello Lotters, this "Modus Operandi" of the criminals always gives way to new innovations, which some are real shocking to every viewer watching the news about this being unfold. before it was plain stealing, then comes to digging the wall, or going through the ceiling. but now, here comes the new part and that's "going through the sewer" they go into manhole, go through a tunnel line and dig through the pawnshop coming from the underground. SO far, in the news they were successful in that attempt. am watching my manhole in case some one do some stupid and digs in. What are your views..be alert!

If I saw someone poking their head up from a manhole on my property, I'd scream so loudly the criminal would have no choice but to go back where he came from. Yes, I think that my voice would keep me safe from these sewer slinking thieves.

Hello mentalward, well, this was done in the slums and open man holes, that are either doesn't bothered by other people.of course, it wouldn't happen here in our place because we have four establishments that are available twenty four hours a day.

Hello Letran, That's one way of robbery huh, quiet well planned and nobody ever noticed. How far the manhole from that pawnshop, did the robbers took the diggings for a night alone? Well,it's kind of suspicious. Good thing i lived at the second floor. Have a wonderful weekend ahead my brother

i guess the Maynilad or NAWASA must took sometime to open the dam and let water flows to the sewer. Let's see if any robbers will be blown up to the sea

Hello Jaiho, but the weakness there is that "TIMING" sucks and they allow people to see them.i believe they were a lot of people who are doing this made them noticed this and report it. this is something that the government should take a note on when it comes to sewer security, it seems no one takes a notice on it except it runs on water.

I have seen this bit of news just about an hour ago and it was a pawnshop that these crooks robbed. I hate people who steal because there is always a better way to earn a living. That's why I hate telenovelas that show the girl going to a strip bar, or the guy becoming a crook because "its the only choice they have". I also feel bad for the victims, not only the owner of the pawnshop, but the people who pawned their jewelries because they needed the cash and they know that their jewelry is safe and they can always claim it again. I do hope our police catch these crooks.

Hello anne, i don't blame of course, i would hate them if they would do that to me. but lack of education and poverty is to blame for such travesty. it's sad that more and more are getting into these problems. they don't have a choice, i hope the new administration would do something about this.

Okay now they may come through the floor as well as the roof, the doors, the windows...No, I’m not nervous... I’m just thankful that we don’t have that much worth stealing. It is a scary idea. These thieves have a new MO now, terrific!

Hello Paula, Well, i think you're sewers there are secured compare to ours here. this idea was either immitated from a movie or due to starvation that they had to act more desperate than before.

Are you talking about the one in 24 oras? I saw it and it was neatly planned. I think it was an inside job. The robbers knows where to get the money and where the alarm and the connection of the cctv camera were.

Its really weird that they can spend their time and effort to do something, as go into a man hole and navigate through the sewage so that they would know where exactly to dig in order to get into the place where they can do their crime, when they can also spend the same amount of time in looking for a good job that doesn't really make them law offenders.

hi letran these robbers are more clever and probably worked at night so any noise would not have alerted anyone in the pawnshop. wow going through the sewers must have reaLLY wanted to steal badly to go that way,and they must have been electronically savvy how else defeat the security system that the pawn shop had or did it have any? Yep best watch they manyhole. my view is that they did have some smarts, not that I at all condone any such actions.Stealing is stealing no matter how it is done.

Hello Hatley, well, there are no excuse for what they did. am sure they didn't go there to get back their jewelry, still that is consodered stealing. it was an inside job that's for sure.i believe some had been bought or threatened to do this things.

Is that a scene from the movie "Oceans 12" or copied from the TV series "Prison Break"? [em] It was not clear however if the floor is concrete or not. If it is, it is a big question how the underground digging was conducted without being noticed by the occupants of the building. Even if the robbers used the sewerage, for sure, they have to make some kind of digging to come out in that room.

Hello eichs, the floor was concrete but there was soil before that, after they were digging the tunnels, it's not that hard to digging the soil until it reaChes the target. well, it seems these people had been watching that movie as you claimed to be similar. if it's true i may blame that movie for this :D.

Criminals will always find a way to get to their loot. So they have finally gone down the drain so to speak just to rob a place. I don't know whether to laugh at their silliness or slap them silly. For all their troubles, did they get away with a substantial loot?
• Philippines
31 Jul 10
Hello Advocate, i think on the second attempt they failed because they were people monitoring they're actions and feared it's not something out of the ordinary, they called the cops and prevent them from digging through the cement, and prevent creating a tunnel directly under the next target pwanshop.

Our sewers probably stink that much that robbers would have second thoughts going into them. Not only are the rats abound but the cockroaches as well. If they're that brave then they're all welcome maybe they can even take some of the clogs off it. When they succeed they will found nothing to steal anyway. But you can really see how resourceful and sophisticated robbers have become. Before robbers rob because they are driven by either hunger or addiction. As time goes by and as people come up with better ways on how to better protect their possession robbers on the other hand come up with cunning ways to go around it to the point that you consider it brilliance. If only robbers can make good use of such brilliance then what a better place this would be. But i guess human society is not designed that way. I guess that's the way it is.

Hello Ybong, i believe these people got used to the stink-ness of the sewers but they took their chance anyways knowing that ordinary people would go yucky by seeing one of these sewers. i believe still that poverty is what people are driving into crimes, most specially if they were not given education or proper job offers. most of these criminals can only works in the construction.

A pleasant day to you LetranKnight25, With reference to your main topic, I think, its about time to be more vigilant and extra careful now a days since, the new modus operandi of the robbers are quite new. And to think, the new modus operandi is somehow unusual, still they have done it for the sake of getting a big amount of money. Hence, because of this, we should be alert in observing what is going and happening around to our surroundings. We should open our eyes and stay vigilant 24/7 (24 Hours a Day / 7 Days in a Week).

Hello Aira, Well, we do have a manhole here and several pawnshops in place. there is no doubt i will take vigilance and watch over my place. trouble is, it won't be long before they are reported since there's a police station near the area where near our house. so, it would be stupid for them to do so.

It is an Inside Job 1) there is always and is a necessity for a security guard that maintains the camera, (whats the use of the camera is no one is watching 2) Burglar alarms/security alarms are sensitive to vibrations, when the robbers are digging under the vicinity it should have tripped the alarm. 3) you can not open a time delay vault, as far as i know all vaults as per Central Bank Regulation should be equipped with time delay system, ( a time delay is one that regulates when and at what time/s the particular vault can be opened. lets say 10am and 3 pm only) 4)10 million pesos is a lot of cash/property, the said pawnshop will not paid by the insurance/PDIC probable reason is NEGLIGENCE in the performance of security measures. 5) If you have to go to a pawnshop, inquire for their security system, One time We have to go to a pawnshop, it was Cebuana Pawnshop, We have to pawn some jewelries for emergency reasons.

Hello Mr. Fdg, Yeah, i always had doubts about low and old styled crooks coming up with a plan to strike down a very sophisticated and advanced kind of security. unless, some one has knowledge of it, makes me wonder if we ever gonna have reliable security or staff that doesn't fell prey into stealing stuff. reminds of me of that horrible bank killing incident that even the insider got killed too.

Let me get this straight. They went through the manhole then dug through the floor? And nobody ever noticed any noise or anything suspicious? What were the guards doing were they all asleep? Hey, If you're gonna bore through the cement floor (I'm assuming its a cement floor) there's someone bound to notice. This robbery has got to be an inside job or someone inside was/were helping them plan this thing.

Hello zexx, that's true. well, some people were able to noticed it and were able to call the cops even before they could start they're act. it's sad, people that you were supposed to trust are collaborating with crooks.
