For those of you not in fandom, a shipper is someone who would like to see a relationship between two or more characters on a tv show.
Some are basic on screen shippers (What the plot/writers give/suggest to you)
Some are rare shippers (Unconventional ships that aren't as obvious)
Some are slashers (The fans who like homosexual relationships)
Some are cross overs (mixing TV shows)
Some only have OTP (One True Pair) while others see potential in more than one and even others are OT3 (They go for more than pairs).
I usually fall under the rare shipper myself.
Stargate's Sam/Daniel and Sam/Lorne are perfect examples

Hmmm...I think it all depends on the fandom for me. Sometimes I go with whatever the canon pairing is but then there are other times when I prefer certain characters going together. I read quite a bit of fanfiction from many different fandoms (mostly anime/manga) related and I've come across many stories that ship many different pairings. Some of the authors on there are so great at storytelling that it makes the pairing really believable even though you know there's no likelihood of that pairing ever happening in the series. I'm usually open-minded with fanfiction as long as the story is good and entertaining.
