I was wondering how many of you out there are familular with French knitting? I know I started a discussion about it last year but there are so many newbies out there that I thought they might be able to shed some more light on the subject. I can French knit but I only use a four pin and have no clue what to make with the results apart from coasters that aren't much good because they are wool they slip about on a shiney surface. I was having a conversation with someone just the other day and she said that she makes scarves, bags and allsorts with hers though I have no clue how!!
Do you French knit? What do you make with it?

I dont know what french knitting is I know it has to do with knitting but I'm self taught knitter meaning learn to knit through trial and aria, I can also view certain patterns and emulate them so if I saw what a french knitting peace looked like I could do it through trial and aria.

I had to look it up to see what it is... apparently the same thing as spool knitting? If so, you could use several tubes and sew them together to make throw rugs or make a very long one and sew it in a spiral for a chair pad. You could probably even make a jacket from them by sewing them together. It would take some planning for that, though.

Hi ya jillhill
I wanted to learn to crochet as I thought it would be easier than knitting so I asked my mum to show me, the only trouble was that it had been such a long time since she had done it that she had forgotten how!! haha
Thanks for your response and I am so glad to see you are still around even though I haven't been for some time!

hi there humbug
have seen french knitting turned into larger items.. rather than goingin a round and around when sewing up., decided your width say for a scarf and make a side to side trail --------------
-------------- from left to right then right to left. this then can be made for scarves or bags., so think oblongs rather thatn circles..
there are also larger looms now., so that can be used in chunkier wools, and can be purchased from haberdasheries and if uk argos have them.. honest.... so that you end up knitting in the round but with out using needles (knitting) and is the same principle as french knitting dollies just more up right pins
hope this helps
best wishes
