There are a few farms that have had people dumping cats on their farms thinking that there will be food as in alot of mice for cats to eat aswell.Alot of the cats have never been neautered, there for they have kittens, which then those kittens have kittens. All these kittens then turn out ferral cats that have to fight for food.Thankfully the farmers that i know do not harm the cats or their kittens.Shame on the people that dump their cats any where.

you know where I stand on the subject... a lot of farmers like to have a few cats around, but there is a point where there are too many...
the horse barn we sent The Mama out to is doing fine with 2 cats (Mama and one that moved in with her after she got there) so they didn't' take her kittens after they were fixed, but at least none of them are breeding more ferals because we did fix them!

I know, jugs, I've seen it and tried to stop it.
I have a policy, if a cat walks thru my yard too many times and I can catch it, it gets fixed...
there was this one cat, kept coming by, got him fixed... didn't see him for a month or so, next time I saw him, he had a collar!!!

The thing that gets me is that people like you do care about the cats aswell as trying to sort the problem of the breeding of the cats, shame other people are not like you out there.People are dumping cats on farms that have not been fixed and the poor farmers are trying to help these cats, but no sooner have 2 cats been dumped there are another 2 and then another 2 and yes those cats are all breeding. The farmer tries to find homes for the kittens if he can while they are young so that they can get tamed.Just like you keeping on top of the problem, you can see why he can not keep up with all the cats that are dumped.

a situation very similar to that happened when my grandfather was trying to give away some cats he had. he put a listing in the newspaper to let people see about his kitten giveaway and he ended up receiving much more cats by people dumping them off in boxes on the sidewalk next to his house.

I think that it is really sad when you see aswell as hear all these people dumping all of their animals where ever they do and never think if the animals will be able to survive.I think that they should make it a law that people gets their pets sorted as that they can not have any kittns, etc.

I can't stand when people do this. People do that in Baltimore City also, it just isn't a farm thing anymore.
There are people in the city who will every day go out and feed the cats. I honestly don't think this is helping the situation. I understand that the people think it is helping but it really isn't. I know Animal Control is doing the best they can but with every community suffering budget cuts - it's just not enough.
I wish people would take the unwanted animals to shelters.

I do not blame the farmers that have the cats on their farms,as they are not the ones that have cused this problem, the farmers are the ones that let people on their land to feed these wild ferral cats. There is not alot a farmer can do to keep up with these people dumping these cats and it is not the cats fault either. My husband went to a farm the other day and he got chatting to the farmer and they were saying about cats and how mwny he had on his farm.He told my husband if he wanted any of them to help himself, but beware as the older kittens are quite nasty with their claws and their teeth. He tries to find them homes as soon as they are ready to leave their mums before they become too wild.

My sister and her husband has a farm and there are loads of cats living around in the barns etc. They live on the rats and mice there - as they are always present on a farm, but I have known my sister to put out food for them now and again, but not too much because they will get lazy and not catch the rats and mice.
They just arrived at the farm from nowhwere really. It started with just one or two and then lots more started to arrive. Maybe the ones who came first when and told all their friends about the nice juicy rats and mice that could be found on a farm. _Derek

I think that there are alot of people out therer that may have also dropped some off on the farm, lol.I think that it is nice that the farms where the cats are have people that do not mind that they are there.Perhaps they do tell other cats where all the food is,lol.

Peaople dumping cats on farms Jugs, this is outrageous. How can they do such a thing and thenwithoutthem having been neutered causing even more of a population problem. I would go without myself to provide for my children and animals first, what on earth are they thinking. I take in rabbits that people no longer can look after and have 14 at present, one has a home to go to in a couple of weeks time though and wouldn't dream of setting them free to roam as they are domestic not wild. I thought we were an animal loving nation, has the current economy led to this I wonder. Thank God the farmers are pleasant. Huggles. Ellie :D

Yeas ago it used to be people dumping cats and kittens at the cats homes when they could not find them homes, before they moved to their new houses/countries.Then it got to people not worrying where they dumped their cats, now it seems that alot of farmers are over welmed by cats that have been dumped and then they are breeding out of control.Alot of people tend to over breed their animals and then find that they can not rehouse them each time the cat has a litter of kittens they seem to have a few left and then it gets pregnant again that is where the problem is.I just want to get to the kittens to rehouse them, even though they are covered in fleas.

For some reason we haven't had as many this year. The preditors get most of ours
we are rarely able to save them, one in a while we will find one early enough to have it nutured and let it be a barn kitty. Believe me if I could catch the people, get a license number or something I would turn them in. I hate this practise.

I think that there are alot of people that dump them tend to dump them at night so that they can not be seen.I think that it is not nice for a person to dump any pet anywhere no matter what reason they may have. The thing is,they are the cats that have been use to humans feeding them aswell as cuddles and the warmth of a house that are the domestic cats that are dumped.

When we moved to our house over 30 years ago, we didn't have a cat and had an abundance of mice. We brought one of our cats from our other house (we didn't want to move them, we lived on my parents farm and that was their home and my mother fed them just so you know they weren't just abandoned!) anyway, we brought one over but we couldn't keep one they kept dying on us then a friend told us that we needed to overpopulate with cats cause the mice were actually killing them! When the cat eats a mouse that fur balls up in their stomachs and a steady diet of this and they litterly starve, plus eating the mouse and birds will give the cats worms that will kill them. A good barn cat is one that is well fed. It will still kill and more effectively kill the mice but won't be so inclined to eat them. We got lots of cats and our mice disappearded. We use to have up to 30 cats running around here, now I have 6, 5 are strays that have 'arrived'. I put food out and feed all the strays that come, think some might be neighbor cats. I use to have a cat that would come every October through April. I think that someone went away for the winter, we have cold winters, and turned the cat loose to fend for itself during the winter months. It came for several years, but always during the winter, never seen it in the spring summer.
Right now I have an "old Tom" that when the neighbors moved they left him behind and he found his way here. He was wild at first but after we petted him, he is the biggest, most loving baby!

People who dump cats or dogs in the country are very cruel. They think that the cats ands dogs can survive on their own in the wild. Eben though some cats can hunt they can't because they have come to depend on humans for food and water. Most farmers have all the cats that their farm can sustain. Not only that but if the farmer raises chickens or other livestock the cats or dogs can become a threat to them. and as you dais shame on any one tht dumps any animal in the country or on a farm.

I think that people who dump all these animals should get banned from keeping animals aswell as get a heavy fine and then perhaps people may think before getting a pet or dumping a pet.I feel sorry for all the farmers with everyone dumping the pets,as it is them that are left to deal with the problem and after all it was not the pets fault.

The dumping of any animal is dispicable. If we are not going to take care of an animal, we shouldn't get it in the first place.

YEah, i hate those irresponsible ple, whom are dumping animals, or even their pets, to whenever they think suits those animals best.. But they often dunno, it's in fact a mess that they are leaving for others to clear up, rather than doing good for the poor animals..
Especially for pets, they might have already gotten used to being pampered at home, and they wont be able to survive out in the wild, together with competition around..
Even though there will always be ple out there more than willing to care for those cats, but still, ple should not dump them there, as it's not a dumping ground for anything..

I'll never understand why people would take a pet if they don't really want it. Dumping them anywhere angers me! I guess if they have to be dumped, a farm is a better place to do it than just dropping them on the side of the road or somewhere else. At least if they are on a farm they have a CHANCE of being taken in. My brother left town and left his 2 dogs and a cat and his house for me to dispose of. I didn't care about the house and I could kind of see why he would leave it as he was about to lose it anyway, but I couldn't understand how he could leave his pets. I had to go to his house every day and take care of them. I finally found homes for them. I am not a fan of dogs but I would have taken them if I couldn't find homes for them! I had 4 cats myself at the time and really couldn't handle anymore animals. I am sure he knew I would take care of them before he left them, but I still couldn't have done it. Needless to say after that I didn't have any use for him.

Yah. I pity those cats so much. Cats are so lovable and I don't understand why many people hate them.

Wow this is so sad. I feel sorry for the poor cats. Why on the farms? Do they think the farmers are going to look after them? People should just neuter their cats and keep them because they made a decision to look after them when they got them. They could have at least rung the RSPCA.
This sort of stuff really annoys me if only I knew who it was leaving their animals like that :(

I feel sorry for the cats/kittens that are being dumped as i am sure that they do not all survive I think the reason that they are being dumped on farms is because they think that there are mice, other food that the cats will be able to find to survive.I hate people like that and if there were more laws to ensure this did not happen then perhaps that would help.

Well, dumping them on a farm is preferable to what other people do to cats including drowning, dumping kittens in a trash dump, and even to civilized people gassing them in the pound. I just went to the Mummy exhibit at my local museum and it hurts me to see how revered cats where in Egypt compared to what we do to them now. People are horrible and our society is only as good as what we do to our animals and frankly its not looking good for our society. I have three cats myself and do what I can to help cats in need.

I would never dump any animal any where for it to fend for itself.I know that there are alot of out there that dump their cats not knowing aswell as even caring what happend to them. These people should at least get a fine for what they are doing.I hate to think how many cats are not neautred and breed on the farms where other people dump cats and how many cats suffer.

Some of them may survive to have kittens, but I am betting that most of them just die of starvation or are killed by predators. I really hate people who do that.

Perhaps they are trying to use biological control of pests in stead of going in for a chemical elimination that could spawn some new trouble. This is an environment friendly way of keeping pests out, Isn't it? Now as for the cats fighting for food and survival, well that is like being let out in the wild under the control of the law of nature. Why should that disturb you?

Alot of these cats are use to being given food rather than having to look for it,they are also use to warm houses and having somewhere warm aswell as safe to sleep. They are also use to kind humans making a fuss of them.I think that if people get animals then they should at least look after them for life, not dump them in places where farmers tend to lay poisons that could kill them.

Isn't this just like avoiding responsibility?
Some people who take in pets but when the responsibility of actually taking care of the cats, or feeding them comes around, take the easy way out. Leave it for the others to take care of them.
Shame on them for dumping their cats!

It's like I keep saying. People really need to be more careful when chosing to dump a pet. I don't know why people wish to own cats if all they are going to do is get rid of them. I have to admit, I had to do that because of the rules of our complex. But, I didn't just dump the cat anyplace and hope it could fend for itself, no, I actually made sure it had someplace to go and a chance at a life.
In the end we did the right thing for the cat. He wasn't happy and was jelous of our female cat, Chinnia. I had no other choice but to find him another place. He's happy now. At least he won't have any reason to be jelious.
I don't like the idea of having to give up a pet. But, if it turns out to be the best for the pet than I'll do it. I don't approve of those who just dump out pets. People like that shouldn't bother to try.

There are alot of people that tend to dump cats aswell as dogs. The people that dump their cats are the people that can not be bothered to find them homes, these cats that they do dump usually tend to breed with the other cats that have been dumped and then those kittens breed and then there are loads of cats that are left to other people to sort out.People do not think aswell as do not care about what happens to the cats that they dump.

Hello friend
Let me tell you about things in my place, very few persons have cats as pet, but one can see many moving in our homes, i prefer to call them 'stray', because there is no owner, they move from this house to that eat food from kitchen, drink milk too and at night sleep comforatbly on our bed in the guest room, as if it was theirs, we are fade up..
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always.
Cheers.
