this is it! Id be having my OJT in Singapore for one year.It would be my first time to travel, live, and work abroad. It would be an exciting and challenging experience for me. It would not only help me be more independent but also be globally competitive. I wasn't used to know some singlish terms in Singapore but I intend to learn and understand them. Ive heard that there were different races there and it was a safe country to live. the only problem that I somehow realize is the time the sun rises and the sunset. well, in our country the sun usually sets at 7am but in singapore my friends said that it rises about 9am. well, it's a problem because I might not be able to adjust myself well, since most of the time I wake up 5am to have my jogging and do go to school at 7am but with that kind of event I might possibly wake up late. well, Im hope that I can somehow adjust

The Olympics will be held city wide. There are lots of info in the media: papers, radio, tv, magazines, everywhere. The National Day celebration will be at the Floating Stage, Marina Bay. Entry is by free ticket, balloted on request. But you can catch it at the Merlion Park.

I can't promise anything because there were a lot of friends who asked for a pasalubong. haha... I guess I might get poor there. I'd be extra thrifty in the allowance that would be given to me because I won't have wage or even a salary. Simply an allowance. I might not bring and buy a lot of stuffs there because Singapore has a very high standard of living. haha

Oh, that's nice to hear. Congratulations on your journey to the new phase of your career. But don't worry about your waking up habit, you can adjust your body clock, just turn a little and it will respond. Good luck eil . .

that would really be a great experience for sure. not just a job experience but an experience in life as well. you get to learn to become more independent and you get to learn to live with people of different cultures and nationalities (since singrapore is sort of a melting pot). congratulations. hope you get the most out of your OJT!

Welcome to Singapore. Don't worry, you will able to pick up Singlish in no time. As for time zone, I think your friend is not giving you a correct answer. By 7am, the sky is already bright. At 5am, it is still pretty dark and quiet. If you can, 6am will be a better choice.

hi eil_noz,
It's only natural that you have all of your worries about going abroad. a lot of us feel the same way. But I assure you, you will adjust. My hubby is from the U.K. and we live here in the Philippines now, what he used to do when we were new here or in Thailand, though he is already tired, he don't go to sleep early. he sleep in Philippines time zone. In the U.K. you see is 8hrs late from us so greater time difference than yours. So with your 2 hrs. time difference, you'll easily be able to adjust. Have a great time, enjoy it. My hubby and I are thinking of visiting Singapore next year! And please if you have not researched it yet, look for Singapore tourism board. So you will have more infos before you get to your destination. Gud luck to you.!!!

eil_noz,
Congratulations to you.
I hope that you will have an enjoyable and enriching experience. There's really not much to worry about as there's very little time difference or rather none to adjust. The only difference being it gets bright and dark slightly later than your place and country.
Language wise, Singlish is basically English with a slight slang and sprinkled with some local adjectives, which isn't a daunting task to pick up. Do not be shy to ask or afraid to be laughed at the beginning and you will be alright. It is just a matter of getting use to.
Welcome to Singapore!

wow, this is really exciting.just imagining a 19 year old girl facing herself to live, work and study in foreign country is such a great opportunity specially when you are a filipino. not all students like you have given such great opportunity,my friend!
this is what we have to face in real life, adjustments!
we are used to a country where sun rises earlier than other countries.
i guess if i were you,i would also be lazy to wake up cause i can't see sunshine.
but when you get there,i know, you'll get used to it.
you have to! cause the life there is different from here in the philippines.
a lot of adjustments you have to face.and it's all part of growing up.

Singapore is a very clean and disciplined country to stay in. Three races living in perfect harmony is just so unbelievable. After having the experience of working here in Taiwan and traveled to Russia, I must say that Singapore is a very convenient city too. All the signs are written in 4 languages (of the 4 races living there including English) unlike Taiwan and China that use Chinese characters or Russia that uses their own way of writing too. It's just so frustrating to not be able to speak and read their language and vice versa. But in Singapore everybody could speak in English too, Singlish I should say. Even the old folks you encounter in the streets would answer you back in a perfect Singlish.
