As many of you know, hubby has been out of work for the past 3 years, and I've been on disability for 2 of those years. We've gone through foreclosure and every devastating situation imaginable. Since hubby was a little boy he's had asthma and since before I met him he has had COPD. This ordeal has taken its toll. I finally convinced him to apply for SSDI. He applied on May 5th and was approved on July22nd. That was just barely over 2 months. Now I'm not bragging just extremely thankful. I'm thankful to each and everyone of you who have stood by me and supported me through this time of ups and downs. I love all of you for becoming my friends at the worst time of my life. And I hope that I can be there for you.
Have any of you ever applied for disability and had it come through so quickly?

In NY State? Fast? Heck No! Ny friend applied for disability after her husbnd divorced her. She is totally blind in one eye and has tunnel vision in the other. They refused her two times. Finally she got an agency involved and said, "I just want the disability so I can qualify for training and have an income until I get a job." The third time, she applied with an Independent Living Center behind her and she finally got it.
Anyway, 2 incomes are so much better than one, esp. these days. I'm sorry he has COPD, but I'm glad you will have 2 incomes now. I hope that things go better for both of you now. I know you've had it very rough.

Hi writer!
It's nice to see you. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Itr's so sad to hear that people like her would be denied not just once but twice!!! How obvious does it have to be? At least she is covered now. Thank you for your kindness.

Hi Gaby,
I know what you mean by the year of waiting. I was so thrilled when my hubbies came through so fast. Like you, we lost our house and struggled to find the money to pay every bill that we had. I don't need to tell you any of this as I know about your struggles too.
How are you and Gissi getting along without Ging? How are you feeling? Take Care,
Love Leenie

hi leenie oh great thats wonderful as I knew he had been o ut of work for longer than my own son. So he has got approved without a lot of problems. When we were evicted and made homeless and my son was stillout of work, he and a worker from Adult protective services got me put here in Gold Crest and I came here the day before thanksgiving in 2008 and in two months got approved for SSI disabilty because of my bad leg in its brace and the fact that I have diabetes and a bad left arm also. This was the doings of the retirement administrator Jenet and I really owe her big too. between my social security and my SSI checks they pay my rent and board here each moth and allow me one hundred twenty five dollars for my personal use. Now at long last my own son has got a job for which we are both really happy too. Some complain here but to me its a haven and much better than living on the street totally homeless. I am really grateful as the one week we stayed at Salvation Army hospitaly house was an eye opener, they were kind enough but it was not like being back in o ur apartment.Your feeling of self worth sure takes a beating.

Hi Hatley,
You and your Son are always on my mind since you both became homeless not long after my hubby lost his job. I'm so happy that things are working out better for you. And for your Son to get a job is terrific. Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom to appreciate what we end up with. I am so glad that you are happy where you are. We moved into a 2 bedroom apartment and it's not a bad place. I'm very happy to be out from under the major costs of the house.
Hatley, be happy and enjoy the friends at your place as well as all of us. I hope your Son feels much better about himself as well.
Love Ya,
Leenie

I am happy to hear that you had this experience. So many times it is just the opposite. I too had to go on disability. I had luckily gotten a early retirement from my job and applied for disability and got it very quickly. I was so thankful because we were without income at that time. I being the only one working in a household of four people.

Hi Celtic,
First of all, I am so sorry you need to be on disability! Was it an accident or illness slowly coming on? I just hope you are ok. I am thrilled to hear that your disability came through for you so quickly. Hubby and I are so thankful that we didn't have any children depending on us. I have had my disability for 2 years but as you know that doesn't go very far.Good luck and hope things continue to go well for you.

Hi Sky,
I was honestly beginning to think that this saga would never end. I just couldn't see the light of day. Now that things are really looking up, I can continue to encourage others to believe that a new day will bring relief. We all have to believe. Thanks Sky.

Wow, Leenie! I'm so happy for both of you! That is simply amazing, getting approved so fast. It took Social Security nine months just to give me my first denial and that was after them saying (on paper) that it would take no more than 120 days.
You know my whole story, over seven years from application to approval so to hear your hubby got approved in only a little more than two months is incredible! I'm so very happy for you.
I know of one other myLotter who was approved very quickly. Maybe she'll see this discussion and respond but she's not here often these days. (It's moon lit magic.) I don't think she was approved that quickly, though. She did get to the point where she had to go to a hearing, but was approved only three days after that hearing AND the computers were down at the time. I thought that was a miracle!
So, what are you going to do with all this money coming in now that you're rich? All kidding aside, I'm so very happy that you have less to worry about now. It feels good to know there's money coming in, doesn't it?

God bless you leenie 50 and your husband. No I have never applied for disability, I have a cousin who did. He has cancer and he applied for it and got it rather quickly. I understand your circumstances concerning devastations. I give all the glory and honor to God for seeing me through these hardtimes. I am without income, due to the economy, I am not old enough to draw my SS, benefits I am searching daily for ways to get sufficient funds to pay my bills, and thank God he is providing for me daily. You and your husband stay with Christ, get a good relationship with Him and He will continue to bless you all.

Hi Chevee,
It's nice to see you again. I am so sorry that you are in such a bad situation. When my hubby was awarded his disability, that was the first day in three years that we were finally given a chance. I would not be here without my Faith in God.
During our dark days I was constantly searching for ways to cover our rent and bills. We were foreclosed on and yet we kept going one day at a time. When the doors kept closing, I kept looking. So sweetie, keep believing and keep taking it day by day. Good luck.

No I have never applied myself as I have never needed it. Even when I got sick, I had some money saved. I'm happy to know that things are getting brighter for you as you see the light at the end of a dark and long tunnel.

Hi hope,
I'm so glad you have never needed financial or medical help. It's really hard turning over the wefare of yourself or a loved one to the Government but sometimes without any other choice. Thank you for your well wishes.

Hi Leenie! While I have not needed it so far, it's good to know that it is there when the situation warrants it. That's one of the reasons why we pay taxes.

Congratulations !
I've not known you very long but sounds like you've done very well over the years regardless.
I too applied for Social Security Disability after two heart attacks last year, May '09, four days apart, in the state of Montana and was first turned down in Montana.....we moved to Oklahoma and I was determined and as the SS admin. ticked me off since I have only about 37% heart function remaining......so I sat down, wrote a four page letter to the SS admin. here in Oklahoma and my case went thru really fast.
I didn't use an attorney like everyone told me to do but I did call two......they both are still bothering me but I didn't want to pay the back pay they were asking.
I am proud to say I'm on my third month of disability.
Once again, congrats to your hubby and God bless you both :)

Hi quita,
I'm happy to hear that you finally received your SS. There was a day when being sick was enough to receive what you worked so hard for. Today for the most part they force us to get a lawyer. Why? I have no idea. I'm sure it's to discourage people from following through. I'm very glad you were successful. We unfortuneately could not afford the time. Maybe now you can rest and take care of that heart.

Hi Professor,
I suspect that you are still in pain with your hip, but I am so glad to hear that it is not holding you back. My hubby would give anything to be able to go back to work. But as you may know, COPD only gets worse and never better. There are certain diseases that once confirmed are quickly approved for disability. Take care of yourself and thanks so much for your response.

Hi Leenie, That is fantastic news to hear, it doesn't stop the health problems but it does help with the financial one eh! It does indeed sound like you have been going through a major battle the last few years. I have never applied for disabilty but after three years of 24/7 care for my younger daughter and many trips to and from the hosptal I discovered that I could have applied for carers allowance and got helps with costs for the hospital trips, I did apply and received the hospital trips petrol allowance for immediate journeys but no back pay and was declined carers as she was thankfully getting better and able to do more on her own. In this country they never tell you what is available so I just struggled through. My friend though applied for both disability for her husband and careeers for herslf and this was processed within six weeks which makes it easier on them. Healing huggles. Ellie :D

Hey Ellie,
This truly is fantastic news. My hubby keeps waiting for someone to come and tell him it was a mistake. God forbid!! It's been so long since he's been happy, that he has forgotten how.
In this Country, there is lots of help but no body knows about it unless you search for it. I hope to keep helping people find those avenues. I did it all myself practically but even if I can help someone get started, that's half the battle.
Ellie, without you and another dear friend that helped me out in more than one way, I want to thank you with all my heart!!
Love Leenie

I am so glad to hear that leenie,it is great news! I tend to believe that when things happen quickly and smoothly they are just meant to be and your husband is getting the help both of you deserve. I had my husband’s sickness benefit approved quickly once by a lovely man in the social security office whose sister suffered the same condition as my husband so he was very understanding of my plight. I went in there desperate because my mortgage was due and I could not pay it because my partner was in hospital and I was not earning enough income to cover all our bills; that man was a godsend and I believe that sometimes we receive the help we need just at the right time. I hope thing will continue to flow smoothly for your and your family and that your husband feels better.

Hyour hubby is doing ok.i Paula,I love your story and I completely agree that God comes through at just the right time. I also feel that we need to keep our eyes and minds and Hearts open so that we don't miss all the little blessings God sends on a continuous basis. Some of those Godsend people are actually Angels in my eyes.
I hope your hubby is doing well. And you as well.

Hi Cobra,
I truly hope your friend gets her disability. There are sooo many people needing their SSDI and are literally dieing waiting to get it.
The reason I wrote this was to let my friends here that have known about all our struggles, that we were going to be ok afterall. I hope I didn't upset those that are still waiting for theirs. I was hoping to give them some hope. God Bless your friend as He has blessed us.
