When I was a student, I have a computer. After that, It become to be old and slow, so I must buy a new one. Now I want to buy an other new computer. What should I do with my old computers? I can sell them, but It will be very very cheap! I can give them to anyone, but I don't know one. I can throw away, but I can't. What should I do?

You can install Linux and see if you can still use the computer for something. As for me, I plan to network my old machines with the newer ones and experiment with a Linux network. Anyway, I still have to buy some networking devices so it will take a while before I can do so. Meanwhile, my old computer is just sitting next to my table waiting to be used again. Hopefully, it is still okay in a month or so.

hey tknolinevn.maybe you can upgrade first you computer with a new motherboard, processor, a new ram, harddisk, all in your old computer. and then you can used it again or you can rental it. cool ha, make a money with your old and to be a new computer again. or maybe you can sell it too, with a new technology, of course after you have upgrade it

The computer is more and more cheaper! So, if I upgrade my computer, I must spend more money than I buy a new computer! hihi.

for a 150.00 you can get a new hard drive, but whatever you decide make sure you take the old hard drive out before giving it away, it has all your important info on it.

Hi thonlinevn, What I suggest is, sell the old computer and what ever the cash you get just donate to the orphanage. Or buy some books or cloths for the poor children. This makes you feel happy on selling your computer. Try this.

Hi how old is your computer anyway? If it were like the old type of computer wherein everything is not yet modular. Meaning the hard disk is still mounted directly to the motherboard and the other items cannot be separated. Then you cannot get it's parts. You might as well donate it charity if that's the case.

we pulled the hard drives, wiped them. The "bodies" I gave to Goodwill, the hard drives, after being wiped (but there was nothing on them anyway) I posted on Freecycle and rehomed them...

I also think that it is a troublesome to handle the old computer. Since it is very cheap to sell it, it means nothing. So why not try to give someone else, such as the poors? These people can be easily to be found. I love China

You always get decent money on E-Bay for old computers if they're working or not as people buy them for the parts

Well you could just donate it to a school then get a tax write off for what it is worth.

Test every parts of it which still working and able to be reuse until like 2 or 3 years more. Example, perhaps the Hard Disk for extra storage place in new computers, graphic cards (if available), motherboard, RAM's and perhaps CD drive. If these parts are still in good condition and worth to be use like within more than 2 years ahead, try to resell them back to those who still using old computers or those who want them as spare parts. Perhaps like you can earn some money to add for buying new computer soon or keep the money for your pocket money.

If there is a Goodwill near you you can take the computer there and donate it. Get a receipt then claim it on next years taxes for a tax deduction. They will give you up to 500 dollars for it. Just make sure you keep the receipt so you can use it when you get your taxes done. Goodwill reconditions them then people with disabilities use them to learn new life skills.

you should sell it for what you can get. its not worth upgrading an old computer. you may invest money into the RAM but then find out you dont have a large enough power supply. one thing leads to another. best bet is to get whatever you can from it. post it on kijiji ive sold 2 old computers on there. when you get a new computer make sure its custom built! if something becomes obselite with it you can replace any part. with stock computers like dell, your forces to stick with parts that are compatable with it. my old dell i could even take out the cd rom drive lmao just the way they made it, the case at the side sunk in an extra inch or 2 so you couldnt pull it out hahahah. what junk never buying a stock computer again. my new pc is treating me nice handles games alot better its custom. if i were to buy a laptop then i would get it from dell, that i dont really care about. hope this helped!

If you can sell then just sell it. Cheap is better than nothing. Or you can just get some parts from it and add it to the new computer you will buy. Like the ram, and the hard disk, dvd/cd drive, etc...
