When I was in my thirties I went to a hypnotherapist in an attempt to quit smoking. After three visits I realized it was pointless, as he couldn’t hypnotize me, and t he therapist agreed, I was a bad subject. Almost twenty years later, I finally admitted to myself, that I was an alcoholic, and I had to stop drinking. I decided to attend a meeting for alcoholics, similar to an AA meeting. The meeting started with a wide range of individuals stating that they were alcoholics, and then said the length of time they had been without alcohol. Others then asked questions. I surveyed the participants, and made a decision that I didn’t want to end up like them. That’s when I realized it was too late! I was exactly the same as they were, that’s wjy I was at their meeting. That meeting was around twenty years ago, and I haven’t had a drink since then. Smoking was a similar story to drinking. I convinced myself; I only had to give up one cigarette – the first one – to be able to stop smoking. My only regret was the money I wasted on those two expensive habits. I don’t know whether the failure of the professional was what I needed to spur me into action, but it worked! Have you ever sought professional help?
