Many of us would answer-NO, but even in this 21st century, I have seen people who think, superstitions control their lives! I think a person who lets superstition effect his life and activities is allowing himself to be dominated by something he does not really understand. I do not believe in something I cant reason with. Some follow it for protection from evil, some think it brings good luck and so on. So what do u think? Can following superstitions really help us?
Some of the most common superstitions are:
-It is bad luck to walk under a ladder.
-Breaking a mirror means seven years of bad luck.
-Spilling salt brings bad luck unless a pinch is thrown over the left shoulder.
-Leaving shoes upside down brings bad luck.
-A black cat crossing your path means bad luck.
-When someone dies, windows must be opened to let the soul out.
-A sneeze taking place before the start of any work is a sign of impending bad interruption etc..,

Yup, u didn't give any definition so I assumed if ur definition is that one? Yeah, I do believe in wicked spirit creatures among us, as I believe in the Bible and it clearly tells there are wicked spirits.

If your definition of Ghosts is wicked spirit creatures, then all I can say is, if God exists now, so does the wicked.

i must say, yes, but sometimes.because though science is advanced nowdays, there is still something it can not explain.and you should admit that someday we are esp lucky, other days we have esp bad luck.

Hi der colorfulseafish, I believe what a Man sows that he will also reap in a longer aspect of life and life on the whole is as we want it to be, and I agree with oplopez81, superstitions do not have any basis or reason what so ever. Thanx u guys for responding.

Although science, as you said, cannot explain everything, still, superstitious beliefs which our ancestors have passed on to us really do not have any basis at all. They looked for all kinds of explanations to satisfy their need to understand.

I am not really a superstitious type, I don't believe in traditional superstitions at all(I mean those superstitions that you have mentioned and the other ones) but sometimes, after I have done something that was a success, I will try to do the same things in another case, hoping that it will be a success as well. But if I am not involved in any action or activity and I think about this, I laugh about how I am thinking when I am involved in something. So I must say that in a normal, relaxed situation I am not superstitious, but when I am "caught up" then in a bizarre way I believe in some of them. It is a bit strange, but this is how I am.

Yeah, sometimes, if we gain a favorable response for our activities in life, we tend to do everything the same way to gain the same favor. Well I guess these aren't compared to being superstitious, but I guess we make it our own superstition gradually.

I am definitely not superstitious. I am nothing against those who beleive in them as superstitious beleiefs come with one's culture. These beliefs came from our forefathers who looked for answers to situations and circumstances which they cannot explain. With the present technology, one can easily deduce answers to many unexplainable circumstances.

Sure science can provide many answers, but still science isn't able to explain many many supernatural things happening around. Superstitions are definitely one's means of providing answers for their own satisfaction without a reasonable answer. Thanx 4 ur response.

I would say yes but only according to situations, sometime when you have lost all hopes then you can only believe on God and other myths and beliefs that is the reason for me to think about the superstitious things.

Well belief in God is essential, its the way for a happy life, but faith in God and superstitions aren't the same. They are two different things. People believe in superstitions, thinking if they do, or do not believe, something bad or good would happen. It just portrays a lack of faith in the almighty God who can both save and protect us.

I am not superstitious at all. I believe in the science. The superstitions seem to be very ridiculous in my opinion.
I love China

I am not superstitious. But my family, and my relatives, are. One common superstitious belief here in the Philippines is, Sukob. Folks often warn engaged couples don't schedule their wedding on the same year their brothers or sisters were wed. Let's say, your sister was wed January of 2010 and it happen you and your fiance is also about to get married on the same year and you schedule it December of 2010 (same year, 2010), it's a "NO, No!" for the old folks they believe it will bring horrors and bad luck. I don't believe in that.

Sometimes, what we believe could turn out to be true, coz' we already do believe that its bad, and so there it is a definite bad. Lets clear our heads of any superstition and hope for nothing bad, I'm sure it would make everything right. Thanx 4 sharing

Yes. Seems like if I find a penny on it's head I will pick it up and put it in my pocket. If the penny is down on it's tail, I will walk on by. And, I always feel a little uneasy if a black cat crosses my path. Just a few examples of how I'm superstitious.

Yeah, I guess many of us are raised with them and we find it hard to believe otherwise.
