Most of us in the UK will be aware of him, but perhaps not so much abroad. He is the school caretaker convicted for the murder of schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002. He was assaulted by another inmate in March who slashed his throat: he obviously didn't make a good enough job of it!
The claim he has lodged could reach:-
£20k for injuries,
£20k for negligence
£60k for the Prison service's failure in it's duty of care
It could also reach £1m in legal aid fees.
The families of the murdered girls each received £11,000 from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.
Would it be just if he were to succeed in his claim?
Personally. I believe that he has forfeit any rights as a human being.I know that we have a system that must be seen to be fair: but should he win it would seem very much against the spirit of justice.
I'd rather see an electrical fault leave the cell doors open one evening......
Anything that he does win should go directly to the families of his victims.

I really can't believe this is happening, imagine if he won the appeal...but you're right the money should go the the family of hos victims or to charity, but if it was this policy, then he wouldn't be suing would he? This is just a joke, he could lodge this law suit if he wants, but given his record I don't think the judge wouldpass any monetary benefits onto him, perhaps he will get justice for the assault that he suffered but that's about it.
