Yesterday my husband received a letter in his e-mail. The letter goes like this:
"Dear friend. I am the barrister of your late relative .... He died 4 years ago... left 17 million $ on his bank account....I had been trying to find his relatives. I came across with you (I don't understand how). I can't let the bank take your money so lets share it. 50% to me, 40% to you and 10% for expenses that may occur. So send me your details full name, phone #, copy of the passport, etc. After on I will submit you all the information concerning the amount that will be transfered to your account number".
I forgot to mention that the late relative of my husband lived in Togo, Africa.
Of course, I understood that it was scam. I started to search the web and found a site which had 1000s of examples of such mails.
The site is www.scamomatic.com.
Have you ever got such mails? What did you do? Have you ever been scammed?

Yup. These types of email has been going around since forever. I really dont know why these scammers keep on doing this. What's sad is that a lot of people still fall for this scams. I think a scam-free internet is really impossible. Cant wait to have online scammers go to jail in the near future.

I have got such type of emails many times reply to the email many times but not given my personal details like passport no. bank account no. Once I got a email that some one left a box in the HSBC bank London and he want to build church & school in your country. I reply they sent me Certificate issued by HSBC Bank I don't know whether it is original or fake. I request to send the box to my home Address They demanded $750 to sent via Air. I said I have not too much money then he demanded $240 to sent via Ship I denied to give any money in advance. One day I received a call on my mobile to give any money to help us. This is totally scam email. I personally suggest not to reply personal details to this kind of email.

I had a variation of emails similar to what you have. Sometimes it's not logic to think of their reasons to get us into it. I simply ignore them anyway, but I also wonder that of all scam mails, they all related to African nation countries. I also receive from China, Hong Kong and Singapore, but I never take them seriously. Sometimes, I just respond to them if they want to bear all the costing which will be soon. For me, as long as they not asking money from me to pay this and that, I will respond until they said I have to pay then I will stop and ignore them. Kind of fun somehow playing with these scammers. But somehow, it's amusing to know that they able to get most of everyone email address and then send their scam mail to many people from around the world which can benefit them if they want to get referrals for any program they joined online to make money instead of scamming.

I got a check that came by Fedex and it said to keep a certain amount of money and Western Union a certain amount of money to Africa. I turned it over to the bank and they gave it to the FBI because it was fake.

I have received these type of mails many times even today I got one. They offer thousands-millions of dollars and pounds but all are cheat. Never give any of your details to them and never reply because one time I replied to them saying" I know you are a cheater , don't send me mails like this" the number of mails are increased.
