Most of the time i do have mistakes on spellings due to my typing ability. I'm not that a perfect typist I do sometimes have grammar problems. Because for me, communication is the very key to make others understand me. I'm not making school papers for my professor to check on, It's just a typical friendly conversation to my friends.
When I read discussions that some words are misspelled & have wrong grammar, I'm not disturbed because I do understand that not all of us can write & understand English fluently. But there are instances that others where so disturbed about it & they do tends to insult the others who makes mistakes.
Are they that perfect to have the right to insult others by their wrong grammar & misspelled words? I don't think so. But still all of us have different views & insights, I couldn't say what was on your minds..

As long as it's no problem to understand, it doesn't bother me. I've read posts where the grammar was so bad that I couldn't understand what it was about, and some that I could understand but still didn't really make sense. I don't comment though, can't be bothered :-) I just go on to the next post, chances are that if I start commenting they might not understand my comments anyway ;-)
Or wouldn't care, I suppose they didn't come here to discuss their grammar. I know some tend to comment, in some cases I think it's OK (if the post in question is so badly written you can't understand it, the poster won't get many sensible answers), in other cases pointless. Everyone makes typos, and commenting on them makes sense only when it's funny IMO. If one of your friends makes a typo you can turn into a joke for example.

There are misspelled words that i laugh about, rather than post an insulting response. =)

it doesnt really bother me, no. I mean..Im probably the biggest culprit. My grammar is horrible..but im writing on the internet. Not applying for a job or some top class university. So im not too phased by it. And other people doing it doesnt bother me much. Spelling mistakes, especially with simple words...That bothers me slightly more.

This applies on me too. I just try to scent out the situations and unfold myself.
Even when I am on the writing tasks I am the same.

People who point out faults that other people have must lead a sad and lonely life.If the only reason that they are on this site is to pick holes in other peoples mistakes then they should go some where else.If they were that good then perhaps they would be writing books and articals in news papers, rather that spending time here on a social site, where as they are rather unsociable.Happy Mylotting.

No, it does not bother if a responder has error on spelling and grammar.
People coming here at Mylot come from different countries so it is understandable if some of them are not proficient in English since it is not their native language in the first place. I try to write in correct spelling and grammar but sometimes I do make mistakes. I am only human, I am not perfect!
As long as we are able to express our thoughts on discussions to other Mylotters, I think it is okay. I think Mylot is a good place to practice our English grammar don't you think?

gracielle, it doesn't bother me either, however I do prefer to see any written text that is correct both grammatically and in spelling. I understand that there are many different situations and reasons.
In here there are many people whose main language is not English - heck my main language is not English either:) - just the fact that they are here and participating is an achievement in itself and one that they should be proud of!
Some people, like you, feel that communicating, is what is important ( and I do agree to a point. That is the philosophy behind encouraging kids to right regardless of grammar or spelling which seems to be a great way to get them writing. What's wrong with this philosophy is that they end up used to disregard both and do so in most things they write.
Some, like you as well - and me :) - are not the best typists and typos are common.
As I said, it doesn't bother me, but I believe that once we learn how to write properly, we should do so consistently. If it's our language and we have mastered it since we started our first words, then we should do it right and feel good that we can.
This is my opinion and a strong one that I have - hopefully - encouraged in my children as well. I think I have succeeded so far:) ( sure they are young and closer to your view than mine, but they consistently show that they can write and that's ok with me )
Now, I really don't feel that people have the right to insult others for grammar, typos or misspelling. Some people, might want to correct, or suggest corrections without being insulting, but even that is really not the best thing to do in a site like this unless they were specifically asked to do so.
Otherwise, I am sure that most of us can understand the meaning of a post even if there are mistakes, and either answer or close the window and move on.

Poor spelling and grammar only bothers me if I can't read or understand it, but apart from that I am OK with it.
I always endeavour to put correct grammar and spelling whenever I send something, like a letter or discussion on line, because that is the way I learned to be in school, and I enjoy making an effort to get things right. I know it can't always happen because sometimes I can make some typos and even though I read things through, my mind fails to pick up on them and sometimes, especially here on myLot, once is it posted, it is too late. I can't edit it any more! But users are kind on here and I am sure they understand. _Derek

Everyone makes mistakes, NOONE is perfect. I don't think it's anyone's right to get on to people for their mistakes on mylot. I had a friend that quit using mylot because she made so many mistakes in her spelling. I thought that was real tacky for people to do her that way.

eVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES & I DON'T THINK ANYONE ON MYLOT HAS BEEN APPOINTED to get on to people for their mistakes in spelling , typing or whatever. I have a good friend that i suggested she get on mylot & she did & i think was enjoying it. She did make mistakes in her spelling & so many people were ugly to her about it she never comes to mylot to say anything anymore. I think it's terribly tacky that they did her this way.

I don't really get annoyed or anything because we are here to Mylot to learn English. We learn through mistake and not everyone is perfect to write all in right English. So there is no harm in making mistake but there is harm in insulting others for their mistakes.

gracielle only on my own errors. mylot admins in the guidelines tells us not to mock or harass people here who make errors due to having English
as a second language. They are instead supposed to be made welcome here and helped by other mylotters, not to to be insulted about their errors.I use a spelling checker on Firefox and still miss a few errors. I let the ones who are not English speaking alone except occasionally I might p m them with a suggestion but never an insult. I would probably do a lot worse if I had to try to write something in their own language. The golden rule should apply here, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Hi,
More or less we all tend to commit grammatical mistakes or spellings.
I take lots of care so that my composition goes all correct. But to my horror I sometime discover that it is too embarrassing.
To err is human being...

I run into this problem a lot on mylot. When I post a discussion topic and someone writes me in unusual language, I don't reply back w/ cruel remarks. I'm quite confused on what to reply back actually. So I either say, thank you for your comment or nothing at all. I sometime feel some people do comment back on something and i completely do not understand what they mean, or what they're talking about. But again I don't say anything mean at all. So I do understand what you mean. Not everybody language is perfect and I do type fast so I do try to at least proof read before I send. Some people I can honestly say do not do that. And thats fine, if i still can understand what they mean. you know? but thats it, my opinion.
btw
happy mylotting

Man by nature is not a perfect being. Everyone has strengths and everyone has pitfalls. I myself is not proficient in the English language. But we have the ability to adopt, evolve and especially to learn. We learn from our wrong grammar and misspelled words. I get bothered of the poor construction of words but i am not in a position to criticize. But what is more important? Is it grammatical correctness or the passion of the writer?

Absolutley not. i cant stand the people who correct other peoples grammar. have you ever played an MMORPG? an online video game at all? first thing you will notice if your in an aguement with someone in chat is that they will hat eon you for your grammar. they have nothing better to say so why not start making fun of your spelling mistakes? whats really funny is after a few sentences they forget they made the insult then you see them making all sorts of spelling mistakes. correcting peoples spelling online is asking for trouble becuase your going to make spelling mistakes just as much if not more then them. whats the point of spelling correctly? as long as you understand whats being said it shouldnt matter. a real man or women cares less about spelling properly infront of someone. hope this helped out.
