Does anyone remember that era in the wwe. It was so great back then. In talking from about 1997 to 2001...That is when I used to watch wrestling all of the time. The Rock, Stone Cold..DX...I was even lucky enough to go to a couple of shows when they came to the UK. The storylines in the show were so good back then too. What has happened to the WWE now? Its just not the same.

The Attitude era was what it was to me. It was cutting edge and new. Wrestling sure was hot there and let's face it, some big stars got really hot. In fact, you could even go back to WCW with the formation of the NWO and the entire time from that, until the moment WCW went out a business and thus WWF did not really have to bother as really they are the only game in town. Yeah there is TNA, but they are a very distant second.
I think the Attitude era for as entertaining as it was, really was not as good as people think it was. There was some solid stuff, but when you get past the main event scene and the big stars, feuds like Austin versus McMahon, Triple H versus the Rock, Austin versus the Rock, Mankind versus the Rock, and more, there was really not all that much to write home about. Well actually 2000-2001 was pretty good and Wrestlemania X-7 was the perfect climax to the Attitude era, but there was a lot of stuff in the latter part of 1998 to 1999. The thing was that the good stuff was so good that it cancelled out anything that was not really lighting my world on fire. These days, while there is some good stuff, it really does not have that same X-Factor.
Going PG was a business decision and while it was the right decision for WWE right now business wise, it really hurt the creativity of the product in many ways. Blood being removed is the biggest problem. Granted, you don't need blood for every match but just look at this. Would the Austin/Bret Hart match at Wrestlemania 13 even be half as memorable without that visual of Austin bloodied in the Sharpshooter? I'm thinking not. Blood can really add something if the match is already good and can propel it into classic levels, providing it is not overused. These days, stopping the match to close the cut really hurts the momentum of any match. I think however WWE will never get back to the Attitude era because that was truly a product of its time. Plus, the did attempt to go back to it for a brief period in about 2002 and the result was not too pleasant. Some of those RAWs from the fall of 2002 was essentially poor man's Attitude era and it showed big time.

oh man I totally understand you! That's when I was obssessed with it, back when every time it was a new show I was hoping to see the undertaker send mankind flying, or see triple H and stone cold beat the living hell out of each other. Ah, now I'm going to have to look some of those matches up in youtube lol. But definitely, it is not the same anymore, not even a bit... perhaps they are trying to hard and leaving believable and interesting storylines behind. I'm definitely watching RAW this monday just because of this post, lol

hahaha! glad I inspired you to watch RAW! I went to see a show back in 2006 for the lolz. It has really changed now and not for the best im afriad. They keep having to rely on old hands...Rick Flair was even called back into it! haha. It was a good laught though. I rarely watch it now. I think its gone down the tubes. But this is just my opinion. Anyway, enjoy RAW!

I saw the show last night, it was like watching a comedy movie. "The Miz".. what a joke of a character

i watched it all the time back then too. they just don't got the talent like they use to. many lack the ability to put on great matches and the characters stink as well. wwe is in a downturn for sure. it may take many years for their to be the right chemistry of wrestlers to start watching again.

WWE has changed a lot but sadly enough in a bad way, when you look at it now, its like it is a kids show.... !!!
