If I upgrade to Windows 7 will it delete everything on my computer? Do I need to back up all of my programs and files? Any help with this will be great because I am not finding much from Googling it. In your opinion is it better than vista? I have vista right now and have had it for a year, so I am now used to it. Plus I have everything the way I want it on my computer and feeling like upgrading it and taking everything off I will have to reload everything and get "settled in" again.

if you upgrade without formatting your system it will result to a crash between 2 OS as i experienced.. Back up data then format.. and yes windows 7 is better than vista.. but for me sp3 is still better coz im a gamer..

Hi thank you. I have no idea was formatting even is. So if anyone could let me in on that. If it is too complicated I am just going to keep Vista. By the time this laptop gives out on me there will be another windows program to get anyway and I'll just buy a new laptop with it already included on there so I won't have to deal with upgrading lol.

It's better to do a fresh install of a new OS on your computer. But before you do that, back up your files first in all your drives before installing windows 7. For me, I prefer using 7 because I find it much easier to use than vista.

I see you got your answer. Someone has even described how to upgrade it through your OS, and that's the best way I think. My only advice is that taking back up is better than losing everything by accident. Being settled is quite dangerous. My sister devoted her time for this thing and suddenly her OS crashed. It leaves a bitter taste if you were not ready for the change you are forced to make. And yes, it's far better than vista. You are a vista user, so I won't say much but I liked XP better. And whatever these both OS' lacked in comparison to each other is cared for in W7. Go for it, genuine.

Every time that I have upgraded my OS everything has been wiped. One of the benefits is that you ditch a lot of the junk that you accumulate over time. I would back up/ copy anything important.

resetting the system will delete the files in your system disk, but it seems to be okay for your files in other disks. you had better have your files backuped in advance.

Upgrading Operating Systems, from Windows Vista to Windows 7 won't delete everything on your computer. It's best to install Windows 7 by formatting your computer and install it from zero. Upgrading will trouble you in the future when happen to be some problems to your computer. By the way, before formatting your computer, make sure you keep all important files you wanted to keep. Most people don't recommend upgrading.
